sounds like the same situation as me. Even the shop forman told me that they are all aware of the problem and he personally thinks its a chassis design flaw. He said that he thinks these truck are to sensitive when it comes to wheel balancing

My truck has the tires marked to the valve stem. GM keeps blaming tires and movement on the wheel. Last I checked I didn't have a race car with the tires aired down to 10psi [emoji23].

 

This is really getting old fast. I'm at over 45days straight in a loaner and 58 days cumulative amount down

 

We will see what the outcome is of the next two road tests and then my acceptance road test.

ummm...He is partially correct! The Shear mounts especially the one on front of cab has caused GM much problems.....Replace your rear Shocks to Bilstsein 5100 or 4600 series and Road force balance tires! Get the Goodyears off the truck and get Defenders......Your transmitted vibrations will be under control and hopefully not passed into the Cab. Good Luck

So the dealership called and said changing the struts corrected the vibration issue.

 

Upon arriving at the dealer and driving with their tech I discover that no the vibration has not been corrected. We drive with the Pico and it throws the tire vibration code. Swap out the wheels with my loaner (which has been riding perfectly) and oops it throws the same code.

 

Now they are sending the information to GM for the field engineer to come out.

 

Thank you for wasting 4 hours of my day to ride around in a vehicle in which I have already had ride-alongs with 4 different people to determine the issue. Getting to the point where a replacement vehicle isn't worth the aggravation they are causing.

I dropped my truck off yesterday afternoon and after talking to the service rep (who is a former mechanic) I had high hopes that my truck would finally get fixed after 10+ visits. Then I got on here and have lost all hope! Sorry everyone is having to deal with this I will begin my research on a 2017 duramax!

its a buzz kill that the Firestones did not work out. I thought highly of them with my other vehicles just as you.

 

I actually still feel Firestone has stepped up. I have no problem with them. I stopped in to a totally different location for an alignment check. They looked at my history, re-aligned, rotated, indexed and balanced my tires again. No charge. Vibration still present, but not eliminated (again, this is after a substantial improvement from the drive shaft re-balancing/straightening).

 

I went back to the dealer again. They said I have 3 bad tires.

 

So...Firestone, who has invested a lot on their dime (3 sets of tires, including a brand change from Destination AT to Revo2s at no charge, plus multiple alignments, balances and indexes) thinks they are dialed in. The dealer says (again) I have bad tires.

 

It should not be this hard to balance tires on a truck. I've had multiple trucks and SUVs during the past two decades. On most, I've had either Destination ATs or Revo2s. Rarely any issues...(Ford Expedition, Nissan Titan, Toyota 4Runner - previous vehicles).

 

The dealership blamed the tires and charged me for the vibration investigation last week.

 

I've decided I will replace the tires. I'm going to buy them from the dealership. And if there is a hint of vibration, They will own the problem. And since I'm under and extended warranty, I'll ask for reimbursement for all of the vibration related work I've had done that they blamed on the tires.

 

I have a GM case number, and will also copy them on it.

Update: Dealer drove truck with marked tires and they said it was considerably better in the morning but kind of got worse in the afternoon. I went by and drove the truck yesterday afternoon. Initially the truck had the known tire flat spot vibration and after a few miles this went away and was followed up by the same vibration experienced before but with a earlier onset (63mph) Weird thing is as the truck got hotter the vibration got worse! I would think GM can now rule out tires. I am losing faith in the brand and the customer service provided by GM Corporate. They are slow rolling this thing and it seems out right ignoring my wish for a buyback. They are sending the field service engineer back this Tuesday to look at the truck again. Who knows what will come next. I have owned a lot of GM products over the years and it doesn't appear that they care about brand loyalty anymore.

 

I am still interested to see if any of the US made trucks do this and also if the factory lifted trucks do this.

I have a 2017 and it has a slight vibration. I've already removed the driveshaft and had it checked for balance and of course it checked out fine. I've also removed the rear tires and found out the rear axel flange seems to be out of round. I'm hoping that is the cause and also my next step with the dealership.

I have a '17 Denali Ultimate w/ the 6.2 and I have the shakes, unfortunately.

I had a 15 double cab 4x4 SLE that had the shake but that I was able to get resolved by tightening the factory U-bolts and a good RFB. Now I have a 17 crew cab, 4x4 Z71, SLT that is smooth as glass at all speeds. Only 1500 miles but fingers crossed it holds up. My 15 had the shake by now.

 

The thing I don't understand is why some trucks have it and some don't. GM sells nearly 700,000 of these trucks every year. Maybe 2 million since MY14? That's a big number, and even though this thread has 738 pages, it doesn't represent all these trucks. If it is frame stiffness, like a vibrating tuning fork, then maybe some just don't have enough out of balance components to set off a vibration.

Yes frame beaming! It happens when energy being produced by means of the engine, driveline, and road to tire stimulates the frame. These energy frequencies should be predictable within an operating range/pattern.

 

If any component is changed out example (tires, driveline, body mounts, engine mounts ect...) this could change the energy frequency enough to cancel out some energy removing the shake, or actually start a new shake as well!

 

This is why some people claim their shaking started after breakin of truck, or after a tire swap or component change. In my believe that all of these trucks shake from engine energy, but most trucks absorb enough energy to keep it in check.

 

The early 5.3L (2007-2013) have a resonance when in v4 mode as well, but the frames are heavier and absorbs energy better in my opinion. Some compression rate changes and a complete swap over to aluminum blocks from steel, also invite some investigation as well.

 

Gm knows whats going on, and they will fix it I'm guessing at next major model change.

      I have an Autel, works great for what it is. Can't do some specific things because you need say the GM tool, VCDS for Audi/Volkswagon and others of course. But those times are few and far between for me.   The other tool I'd like to try one day is the new Topdon scan tools. Seen several video's on them and many youtube people review them.    I've never subscribed for updates or payed to do that stuff on my Autel, so I'm sure I'm missing out on some of the updates but I'm fine with that for now.

      I am in the market for a bidirectional scan tool so was hoping someone can help point me in the right direction. There are so many options out there it is hard to narrow down which make/model to choose.   I have always done my own vehicle work so looking to maximize capability with the scanner. Ideal price is $1k or less but would be willing to exceed if it opens up significant benefits.  Currently my 24 2500 is the newest vehicle but also have a few mid to late 2010s Subarus as well.    It seems that the Autel MP900 has a decent amount of features at a reasonable price?

      There was talk over the last couple of years that the contract to build these trucks between GM and International would not be renewed.  International moved production of all their other trucks besides the companion CV model out of the Springfield plant some time ago when they opened their San Antonio plant.  That left Springfield only building the Silverado Medium Duty, International CV Series, and some Express/Savanna long wheelbase cutaways.  International also put the plant up for sale some time ago.  This all answered my earlier question as to why GM and International did nothing with these trucks since they were introduced, as they had basically become a market 'placeholder' with a finite life.    The Silverado Medium Duty/International CV trucks were interesting combination of a GM powertrain, electrical system, and K2XX Silverado cab with an International chassis that was supposedly designed for a step-van type vehicle they never produced.  They were manufactured in International's Springfield plant along with the IH MV series initially.  When first introduced, there was much talk that the Silverado Medium Duty/CV would eventually get a gasoline engine option along with other upgrades and GM and IH would work on a class 6/7 joint venture truck.  This was before VW bought Navistar out, after that happened no more was said.  Draw your own conclusions...   About the time talk started that the GM/IH joint venture was not going to be renewed, rumors started that GM would develop a new line of medium duty trucks themselves.  The story is the new trucks will be part of the next generation HD's due in 2028, and will still feature a 'straight rail' chassis design that the current medium duty has.  GM views this as a desirable feature that differentiates their truck from the competition.  A gasoline engine option is also expected.  As the current Silverado Medium Duty remains in production until September 2026 and there is still a lot of inventory available do not expect any official word for some time.   I believe GM remains committed to their successful partnership with Isuzu, and all the LCF models will still be available from Chevy Commercial dealers.  Isuzu is on the cusp of opening a new large plant in South Carolina and there is also speculation that this may result in new product for both Isuzu and Chevy Commercial dealers.
