Don't really know that answer Gassamax. Postings have been for the 1500 series as I recall.

 

Since nearly all the shake and vibration issues have been at the highway speeds of 70-85mph range

my take would put the problem starting in the rear end out to the wheel and tire itself since all gear ratios

are involved. The drive shaft, transmission, converter, etc. would spin at different speeds but the

shake stays in the same rpm range. Also the stock tire diameter (height) remains quite constant at

around 31" no matter which wheel size 17", 18", 20", or 22" is mounted.

Lol it was rhetorical. There are, so you'd have to incorporate engine displacements and gearing for those as well

Alright guys, I am not trying to spam everyone here but I am so pissed off with this problem and seeing the 11,000+ posts on this page. Alright guys, I am not trying to spam everyone here but I am so pissed off with this problem and seeing the 11,000+ posts on this page. I have started ThisTruckSucks.com and I would like anyone who had or has this issue to submit it on my contact page https://www.thistrucksucks.com/contact. If you go back and read the whole thread, what you're trying to do has been done a couple times already. There really isn't a common factor leading to the vibrations in these trucks. Could be tires, could be driveshafts, could be any combination of a couple components. I had a truck get a couple sets of tires, 3 drive shafts, a complete rear end, ext and ended up trading it for another higher trim @ no additional cost. GM trade in assistance helped me trade out of it Edited by 20Bowtie16

OK, just got a call from the larger Chev dealership's service dept...They had it a week, checked a bunch of items, drove it at

problem interstate speed by a tech and the service rep 4 times, and they could not detect the shake. By the way, no parts/tires were changed.

Mine had to essentially qualify for the Florida Lemon law to be considered.

 

Call GM, get a case going, and let the ball roll. GM WANTS you to buy another GM which is why they give you 5k towards the negative equity. My vehicle was only 4 months old and had 7k miles on it.

 

"Sufficient records" needed to be provided to GM about the repair attempts. The key to my situation was I was very patient and didn't demand anything. It was frustrating to say the least, but I had a loaner and the dealer truly wanted to help me.

 

Tell the dealer you don't want it back until the shake is fixed. I heard from a dealer locally that they're flushing out the torque converters and it's fixing vibrations on some vehicles now.

Thanks a bunch 20Bowtie16. Have the service dept. write-ups however they state all is within specs. and

no vibration noticed while test driving. May have a mountain to climb and mine is nearly 2 1/2 years old.

Also regional rep. (engineer?) drove it and stated it was OK to him. His word-my word situation.

 

Do I call GM corporate, regional, or district to get the ball rolling? Thanks again.

I have had mine 6 weeks and today was first time I took it on our Canadian version of the freeway. Our other highways have 55mph limits but there is one road where you can go 75mph. It would vibrate heavily at 119-121km per hour. Sometimes it stopped if I went higher or a little lower. I am wondering if it's worth my time to take it in for warranty work. Seems like nobody is getting anywhere and I will almost never get it up to those speeds.

My thought is until GM releases the ''new'' 19 platform and it proves to be a non shaker we the public are chasing out tails. If 19 model is good than you have something to dissect and see what is different . I believe GM knows fully well where the root of the problem is . Lets face it the government could give a shit less what consumers are going thru because it is not deemed a ''safety issue''. Its obvious GM knows the game very well and is playing dumb on the issue .

Have you considered removing the "high country" emblem and substituting something like "high shake edition" in its place? I think that would help convey the message to anybody who is behind your truck at any time.

Well add me to the list. I put all terrain tires on my new turn at 2 k miles. All has been fine until I turned 14 k miles. Now The truck shakes and vibrating starting around 65 mph. Had it at tire shop all day and after multiple road force testing and even putting on new tires. Truck shakes and vibrates still. Dropping off at dealer next week. Crap.

Dealer called and they cant find any vibrations that are 'abnormal'.. well I guess they are use to all the trucks vibrating so they cant tell a difference. Going to dealer today and I will take them for a ride to show them...... got a feeling this is going to be a battle.

What you've described is the classic behaviour of a resonance. As discussed before, when the frequency of the moving parts matches the natural frequency of a component, the resulting vibration levels are amplified. All moving parts will have some residual unbalance. Normally this is not a big problem and the vehicle simply absorbs it for the most part. It seems that this generation of truck has a very sensitive natural frequency around 75 mph that gets excited by just about anything... tires, axles, driveshafts, etc. GM has focused on getting the tires perfect, but in the long run that is a lost cause ... tires will wear and go slightly out of balance and boom - problem is back. Until the root cause is addressed, these vehicles will always be flaky and shaky!

 

My Yukon doesn't shake like the pickups, but I can feel each and every road imperfection in the steering wheel and seat. The vehicle doesn't seems to absorb any energy, but rather passes it all along to the driver. Of course, the suv's have the dreaded "booming" which is a whole other thread on this website!

 

One thing I did notice on a recent 800 km trip through the mountains. When hard cornering (at least for a truck) all the vibration in the steering wheel seemed to go away. Something to ponder...

Took the head service advisor for a ride. He did feel the vibrations I am talking about. He said its defiantly a tire issue. He also felt it wasn't that much worse then a new truck. He admitted these are not the best riding trucks overall. Stated they have changed tires on other vibrations issues and helped resolve the issue. He suggested the Michelin ltx or AT ..his opinions best riding tires for these trucks. So I called the tire dealer back, told him dealer cant find anything wrong and said it was tires. Tire dealer says they road balanced and its not the tires? Geez....

 

I currently have Cooper AT3 tires, overall I have been happy with them very little vibration until now. I know they are not the best tire out there but not this bad.

 

Question to those, has anyone changed tires and it helped the vibrations? if so what tire did you go with?

It's not your tires. I've had 4 sets, different brands. Service centers can't wait to say tires and point to the door.

    • He is not saying that an SAE *W20 will have more viscosity than a *W40 due to MORE VII polymers. He is saying that although multiple *W40 may post in the PDS the same or similar 100 C and 150 C viscosities that the blenders choice of modifier TYPE and AMOUNT to get his chosen base to grade will not give identical real world viscosities in shear and at temperature. All will pass the SII test but not all will pass the 100 C HTHS (unpublished value) testing the blender does and relies on to get the required by law "percentage improvement' referenced to his last great work.    Tis the problem with the lie. Once told others are required to support it. 
    • I have a `25, 1500 that auto sets on incline. Never knew that at first. I have the electronic shifter. Just think if it didn`t do that? Unlike a mechanical shift that you can muscle out of park, how would you get this thing out? That would be a problem.   What I found out later is, I don`t have to push the button to release. Just put it in gear.   Setting parameters? Don`t know if it`s possible.

I usually set the parking brake (habit) when on flat ground for typical driving.    When backed down on the launch ramp to launch the boat and I place gear selector into Park, the parking brake activates automatically. My second nature is to set parking brake manually and noticed I was turing the parking brake off.  The parking brake appears to be setting itself automatically.   I looked all over my owner's manual and only found references to being on an incline and manually setting parking brake, or at times parking brake will be auto engaged, but nothing specific to my situation.    When is the parking brake automatically engaged?  Under what specific circumstances?  Can the auto set parameters be changed?     I like the auto set feature.  It would be nice if always engaged when shifted into Park and released when shifted out of Park (like my wifes 2025 RAV4).   Thanks!

Based on the 2000 samples in the SPEEDiagnostix database, increasing the oil viscosity in these engines, even those run on the track, showed no significant difference in results.   The smoking gun was in the oil chemistry. That is where the data shows higher instances of more wear. Molybdenum was the key; the higher the amount, the less the wear. Speed postulates that higher viscosity oils have more thickeners to artificially inflate their viscosity numbers. These thickeners lose viscosity under shear, and the result is that not all oils of the same viscosity have the same shear stability.   Having enough viscosity is the most important characteristic, but according to Speed, once that required viscosity level is reached, additive chemistry matters more than additional viscosity. Speed also states, oil pressure problems on the racetrack aren’t a viscosity problem; it’s an oiling system problem. Running a thicker oil is just a band-aid for an underlying oiling system problem.
    • Can it still be Assembled II?   Viscosity on the decline by various means. Heat on the rise making that worse. Engine RPM in the tank. Smaller motors with more boost trying to emulate an electric motor. Full torque, zero rpm. Then we will triple the OCI. Argh.    But wait....there is more. LSPI has pushed a shift from Ca to Mg and as that cost more PLUS the run to lower sulfur compounds the TBN is moving in the wrong direction for the increased OCI's demanded.    That not being enough to placate a demand for a parameter they can't measure the other sulfur bearing compounds are also under attack. That would be zinc and phosphorus sulfonate compounds. To some degree those are being replaced with boron esters and others, i.e. titanium ect. All of which have shorter service lives. And there there is the "Secrete Sauce" marketing for AW adds that 'Can't be detected by UOA's" but trust me because I (the blenders) never ever lie.    Spoiler alert; ALL additives are sacrificial! Smaller amounts of the old blended with less robust versions of the new do not equal longer service lives. So what are the blenders recommending? Wait for it.......   MOVING THE GOAL POSTS! OMG      Let's declare the long standing TAN/TBN crossover irrelevant and tell people that soot is a great 'graphite' based lubricant which can aid tribo films. Wait, what? Let's declare that the standards used for oxidation and nitration were to conservative and can be expanded. Let's tell them that because GDI fuel dilution, although being a VISCOSITY KILLER and an acid generator is actually okay because we have better base oils that limit viscosity failure limits. (Said knowing this is measured in fractions of a centipoise and in bases not commonly used in shelf oils)   Lying from the heart is not just the new normal but we have a public, a very young public, that is so ignorant of the facts and so sure of their "RESEARCH" into AI driven models base in regurgitated  instead of scientific research based unvarnished, peer reviewed FACTS that the incoming guard is loosing their grip on reality and the OEM's are tickled pink while the blends bend the knee.    You have an ever limited set of tools to work with. And sooner or later those will be taken from you as the API and the EPA strangle the last remaining fluids from the system. What you have left is your wits. If you care to use them.    At some point in the very near future it will not longer be possible to do "What is best for the machine", and be replaced with "The best you have access too". You WILL be rewarded with half the life and twice the cost. That isn't that hard to predict.
