Today Chevrolet announced changes it plans to make to the 2016 Silverado. Calling the 2016 Silverado "The new face of strong" Chevy says the Silverado will be more muscular in appearance. This is a big departure from all the other trucks in the segment, which are trying hard to look more feminine and delicate in their new styling (not). Chevy says the new sculpted look will better reflect the truck's strength and dependability. Sandor Piszar, marketing director for Chevy Trucks said the new styling includes “New front end designs with bold horizontal elements, sculpted hoods and dramatic lighting..." Note the plural "designs." It sounds like Chevy will have more than one grill and hood depending upon the trim.

Chevy also plans to continue to offer more 8-speed automatic transmissions and to continue to add active safety systems to the Silverado line. Finally, as announced earlier, the new Silverado for 2016 will have available Apple CarPlay and Android Auto through its updated MyLink infotainment system.

Chevy has promised more details soon and we will bring them to you as they roll out.

Update: Chevrolet sent out this announcement to dealers shortly after the 2016 Silverado information went live

Chevrolet Dealers –
This morning is the media reveal of the 2016 Silverado – The New Face of Strong! As you saw first at the Chevrolet Find New Roads Dealer Experience in Las Vegas, the 2016 Silverado gets a new front end appearance that includes a sculpted hood, new grilles, and signature LED lighting for a bolder more dramatic appearance. For ’16MY, the Silverado will feature expanded use of the 8-speed transmission, additional safety content, and new infotainment options.
The press release (see attached) includes limited product information and only one picture. This media reveal allows us to put engineering test vehicles on the road without the fear of spy photos. The consumer reveal will take place in September at the State Fair of Texas serving as the starting point for the launch of the 2016 Silverado. For customers that are interested in the ’16 Silverado, there is a web page and limited social media activity to support this press release.
For now, we need to stay focused on the current Silverado and the momentum we have in the market as the fastest growing full-size pickup brand of the year. Silverado has outsold the F-150 for two consecutive months and a strong start to July further fueled by programs like the Silverado SFE Plus-Up Opportunity, is setting us up for a three-peat.

Hmm...I think the more important aspect is how far does the 8 speed get spread down and what safety features are added.

As far as the crappy press photo (as usual per GM) its got alot more Silverado HD in the face (the grille upper feature, the bigger center bar, the lighting general setup) but at the same time, the headlights and colored front say Colorado. Need to see real world stuff.

That said, it still looks like a Chevy Truck. No Ford or Dodge design elements that I can even see hinted at. Which is VERY good.

I imagine GMC will be spilling the beans soon here as well. HD trucks follow suit for 2017 most certainly.
