This is an interesting observation.  Please elaborate.   I'm asking is because I like my '15 so much that I'm considering an '18.  The only difference I can see between the two years are refinements and improvements.  There are many members on this forum who have taken advantage of the model end deals and are very happy with their new trucks.  I'm hoping to restart the clock on my truck if the price is right so I look forward to hearing specific examples of where quality has deteriorated.  Thanks!

If you want all the latest and greatest then get the 18, I did and never looked back. IMO, The last year model is always the greatest of the model, worked out big issues through the years with all the Guinea pigs like myself that ran out and bought the first new 2014 and then later traded it in and watched major improvements through the years. If you can, just make sure to treat yourself with extra creature features.

Rather than take pics and post, it would be pretty simple to list the items that you’ve found that GM has cheapened.   We’re all pretty familiar with our trucks, most would be able to recognize what you describe.  We’re fanboys after all.

Is your “gay blue” an example?

Agreed.  I currently have 2 16s and love them.  We went to look at an 18.  Exact same truck but the wife wants to wait for the 19s. I would never sell my truck.  Best vehicles ive owned

I originally wanted an F150 platinum but couldn't afford it so I purchased an LTZ Z71 Centennial. I think I got a much better bang for my buck than the Ford but there are some things that I wish were different:

  • Rear view camera quality is horrible compared to older and cheaper cars I've driven in. There is also no 360 camera like the Ford's or in the Traverse. I added the Intellihaul but it's still not the same.
  • Engine ticking noise that comes and goes.
  • Driver side wind noise.
  • Mirrors dont auto fold when locking, you have to hold down the lock button to fold them.
  • Tailgate doesn't have a remote button on the key fob to drop it.
  • Chevy performance exhaust sounds like a helicopter in v4 mode.
  • When AC is on automatic you cannot have air recirculation on.
  • Back seats don't appear to be leather and the front seats leather feels cheap and doesn't wear well.

I'm sure if I had an F150 there would also be a list of annoyances. Point being is you'll never have the "perfect" vehicle. I'm happy with my Silverado purchase.

I guess I like  the "gay blue".  We also have a GMC terrain and I hate the red lighting. Wife likes it but not my cup of tea.

Everyone is so quick to hate on OP and remove any validity to his comments. Have any of you ever been to the "2014-2018 Silverado & Sierra Troubleshooting" section? How about the thread asking what users want to see in the '19 Silverado. Do you know what people wanted? They wanted a light under the hood. Why does my '16 not have that? My 2000 had it. The reason? They're cutting corners.

I agree. The camera sucks. I also don't like the way the gas cap hangs when I'm fueling up. The lanyard that holds the cap is just awkward and never sits on the hook right. My 2000 didn't have this problem. My 2000 also had 2 hooks for hanging cloths above the rear window. My '16 doesn't have this. I end up hanging stuff behind my seat on the side and it creates a blind spot when I'm trying to switch to the left lane.

Let's revisit the "2014-2018 Silverado & Sierra Troubleshooting". The seats are shit. The headlights are shit. I do have to admit; the headlights in my '16 are much better than my Dad's '15. The 2015 Sierra lights should have never made it into production. Raise your hand if you or someone you love has the "Chevy Shake". My tail lights are even thin and cheap. My girlfriend was helping me load something a while back. She put her leg up in the foot pocket on the bumper and her knee made contact with the tail light... it cracked... by my girl friend slightly bumping it with her knee. The air vent assembly near each door is also cheap crap. Mine rattle, crack, and creak all the time.

Do I like my '16? Eh, yeah. It rides well. It's dependable. It pulls a boat well.

Is it cheap? No doubt. I should have kept my 2000, put a live axle under the front, and rebuilt the motor.

I didn't mean to make this all about my complaints. The point I wanted to make is that OP says GM isn't doing it right, and I think he's right. For the amount of cash we are dropping to have a nice ride we shouldn't have these issues. The price:complaint ratio is unacceptable.

My 92 has a light under the hood that you can unhook and move around. That not having cylinder deactivation, and the AC still is charged with the original R-12 is the reason this ones a keeper.99cd81049c798032e07b1e5573d17aa0.jpg

Now that’s definitely great reasons it’s a keeper! $60K truck and no freaking light under my hood, lol. Guess GM thought we wouldn’t need it. I agree though but you can always use a FlashPaq to disable the V4 mode and buy an led light with magnets moving those around too

I used hypertec, still too many extra moving parts and add ons for little gain.

In some points I agree and in others I don’t. My 18 has LED headlights (optional) which are superior lighting compared to all the other previous years. Shake was in my 14, not in my 16 and definitely not in my 18. I have absolutely ZERO rattling going on unless one of the kids left something in the door storage. The 6.2 I have is an enormous upgrade in power from previous 5.3 I had. Hopefully I haven’t jinxed it but I had a choice, jump on the 19’s, be a guinea pig like I was when I ran out and bought the first loaded 14. As far as lighting under the hood, it’s a 50/50. Wired lighting under the hood is a risk factor and battery operated with all the extreme heat would destroy your battery life, keep a flashlight in your truck, same thing will happen to it eventually I guess. I’m enjoying my 18 much more than any previous years but there’s always a few years later in the future, trade into 2021 or 2022 hoping all the kinks are taken care of.

With the tech we have ( and have had for many years) it seems like the interior dash lighting would be color adjustable. Aftermarket stereos have been for years.

Folks, it’s a given! The 18’s are the 14’s - 17’s trucks without a lot of the issues. I love my 18 and highly recommend buying one if you’re looking into them before it’s to late.
Though, I wish GM the best in sales, everyone should already know that the first couple years of all newly introduced power trains and transmissions are the ones to be careful with.

It’s all easy to customize.
