I wonder how hard it would be to switch out to the HD camera and if it’s even possible?

I was thinking the same thing. Just got a 2019 RST and didn't realize it wasn't the HD back up camera. Could it really be that hard to swap out the tailgate mechanism with camera? would love to here if someone has done this

FYI, taking my truck back to the dealer for camera issue glitching out still, brake life at 0% despite just being serviced, and check engine light on after engine/transmission began jerking at 60mph. Light went out but got the code ? Related to MAF sensor. The camera was looked at when I first got the truck, again when it was serviced about a month ago/7k miles but this time I said I'm not leaving with the truck until it's fixed. This is ridiculous and is a safety concern especially with 4 kids come on GM

Really?

It's not a safety concern, as the brake life reading zero is a computer error, not that the brake pads are actually worn out...unless you've driven it 50+ K miles...

I have a 2019 GMC Sierra Denali with every option. My camera has cut out completely it reads service rear vision system. It isn't just the cheaper models. This is an 82000 dollar truck.

I have the same issue with my 2019 lt and the service guy told me it was normal for the trim i have, and the worst part is that  make you feel like you are making a big deal for a backup camera

I ignore the DIC readings for brake life,  got my own built-in brake life monitor called my eyeballs. Wide spokes in the alloys permit direct viewing of the edges of the pads for brake life without removing the wheels.

Might be more than just the camera, convenience II option pack comes with HD camera and HD touchscreen. Changes in the (Silverado) reverse lighting improved over the previous gen.....my '16 (white) lenses had reflectors only pointing rearward, new taillights in 19+ have lenses with reflectors pointing rearward and to the side of the vehicle for better wide angle lighting with stock bulbs.

Has anyone had a dealer fix their "blue screen of death" on the backup camera? Had my 2019 RST in a few weeks ago, and of course could not duplicate the issue. Since it wasn't malfunctioning there, they couldn't do anything.

It seems to not work on start up, regardless of temperature or waiting for the full infotainment boot up. If you drive for a little, and let the truck fully shut down, it seems to work.  Of course, that means when you drive to the dealer it them works when it starts back up.

If it is a federal law that vehicles need backup cameras, how is GM getting away with this?

Take it back to the dealer for software update.

Thanks, I know that's what they said - the HD model is not having this issue it's just the "lower end" model screens!? The dealer said there is nothing they can do with it at this point though...any ideas for follow up action plan?

Mine said the same thing.  Daytime is okay and kicks out at times.  I also get the service rear camera notice and screen goes blank.  At night it gets real fuzzy with lines through it.  Took it to the dealer and they said they didn't find any issues and I even showed them the video.  They said there is nothing they can do.  Sad!

    • I’ve own several successful businesses. I’ve bought homes and lived in different states. I’d witness several generations buy homes and survive in different economic circumstances. You get awful sippy when people have different experiences than you do. You live a life. I’ve lived a life. It seems our experience has been different. You can point out generalized statistics. Some people learn how to thrive when the odds are against them. Living in different states does make a difference in a persons quality of life and economic outcomes and opportunities. That’s a fact Jack. It’s my truth, my life. Hard work and long hours the right environment made my families life easier. And yes moving to a different state increased the odds of that happening. Stats are generalized. People who thrive don’t make excuses. They beat the odds. Others get mad and point to those statistics. I guess that’s you. My post pointed out how you helped people beat the odds. Somehow your panties got in a wad. Go figure.
    • Good question, I don't remember for sure but I believe it was the HD. I will check and get back to you.
    • Point of the post sir was that while both wages and cost are rising EVERYWHERE; the cost is rising faster EVERYWHERE than the ability to buy EVERYWHERE. We're not going down the location rabbit hole. I'm aware of what economic migration is. I've lived in four states including Texas.   It's what "Purchasing Power" means.   I'm not telling you what I think. I'm telling what the government, your government, data shows.   It wasn't an argument. It wasn't a suggestion. It was a statement of FACT. You are absolutely entitled to your own opinion. Your not entitled to your own facts. If you and I were, they wouldn't be facts.    fact /făkt/   noun Knowledge or information based on real occurrences. "an account based on fact; a blur of fact and fancy." Something demonstrated to exist or known to have existed. "Genetic engineering is now a fact. That Chaucer was a real person is an undisputed fact." A real occurrence; an event. "had to prove the facts of the case." • Probably a one and done post, but do you have a CEL on the dash? Was having issues with my transmission, fortunately only a week, and it turned out to be the transmission harness. Valve body was in good shape, so new harness with all the sensors attached, new fluid, and filter. Seems to have worked so far?
    • Two interesting tidbits of information which are NOT related were just released.   One, regarding the possible thrust bearing issues / engine failures with the 3.0. Demonworks just did a segment in which they believe they may have found "a" or "the" cause of thrust bearing failures: A missing thrust bearing. If the engine doesn't have all its thrust bearings from the factory, the missing bearing can cause extra play which ends up destroying a nearby thrust bearing which then sends metal through the engine.       Of other importance, Lake Speed Jr released some interest information regarding oil weight selection for the 3.0. Comparisons of:   AcDelco 0w20 Dexos D Mobil 1 ESP x2 0w20 Dexos D Mobil 1 ESP x2 0w30 Mobil 1 ESP x4 0w40. Mobil Delvac 5w40   Spoiler alert: The Mobils are PAO Ester -base and the ACDelco is a Group III base. Mobil shows lower wear in their tests for similar weights. Additive packages between 20-30-40 weight ESP's appear to be the same, but only 0w20 is Dexos D licensed. Wear is even more reduced with 30 and 40 weight ESP although all perform very well and resist shear and provide very similar viscosities within temperature operating ranges in the 3.0.   There are even more surprises, so just go watch it.
