2014+ owners having issues with their truck?

The one I test drove had the lane departure on it. That would have been a deal breaker for me, I don't want that stuff going off if I get too close to a line. One more thing to have problems with, as it appears several others are having.

I found this forum when I started having problems with my new 2014 Silverado LTZ Z71.

Here is what is going on with mine:

Infoainment system- mylink would not pull in all the music from iphone, navigation to street instead of address when onstar sends route to vehicle AND loss of voice commands.

Now for the other problems:

I was contacted by the dealer service department this evening and was advised that they had updated the infotainment system and applied the BCM update. The issues with the Infotainment system appear to be resolved, however, the safety features are still malfunctioning as is the overheating driver seat.

I am attaching the photograph of the error message regarding the lane departure system which is being displayed.

The downhill grade breaking is still inconsistent, the lane departure and parking assist sensors are still inconsistent (and in fact, the lane departure system would not initialize with a perfectly clean and clear window, on a road with new striping), or on any road for that matter- even after I would turn off the key and restart the truck in an effort to reset the computer system- attached is the photo of that error message. Oh, and the collision warning does not always work.

I have great concerns regarding the safety features in this truck not operating as designed. As there have been MANY owners complain about this very model vehicle, I feel as though there is something more than an isolated incident. I have filed a complaint with the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration due to the safety issues with the truck.

It's not the dealer's fault that they cant resolve the issues- it is software and/or hardware problems. As a Senior Technical Analyst for the nation's largest hospital system, I would bet that it is software. I have found too many bugs to list.

Also, heated/cooled seat overheats- causing the vent to separate from the rear of the seat......

GM Case 71-1223618078

NHTSA Office of Defect Investigation Case filed last night due to the continued issues. GM put out a BCM update and an infotainment update, however, this has not resolved the issues with the overheating seat, lane departure, collision alert, parking sensors, downhill grade breaking, etc.

Took photos of the DIC errors showing the problems with the systems..... and the overheating seat.

Not an issue with the dealer or service dept, but GM needs to fix these issues with my truck and everyone elses!

Mine seems to be working fine. One thing I think some people don't understand is you don't have to turn it on. My local highway is narrow and has the rumble strips so I just leave it off on it. You can use it when you want and when it will do you the most good. The forward alert is easy to turn on and off also.

I purchased a 2014 z71 slt sierra. Love the truck and ditched my rubicon for it. Your problem might be a bad intelllink unit. My truck with 1200 miles started having issues all involving the intelllink system. Radio wouldn't work, park assist kept coming up on the display "not available", then screen would freeze and not do anything. The truck is in the shop and they are doing the best to fix it, but it appears a new unit will be needed. My only complaint is it is a new loaded truck and my loaner is a Chevy sonic, it is difficult to pull my boat with a go-cart.

I'm glad I found this thread. I was within days of trading in my Toyota for a new Silverado. I had even been tracking the progress of the specific vehicle to the dealership by using the VIN number and Carfax. A Black CC LTZ/Z71 with every option. I even searched the back lot of the dealership after hours to see it after it had arrived from the plant. It was sitting there with plastic still on it, and sitting on the black steel interim 22"s.

Several things had been wearing on me about the new purchase. First of all, I am on the road all day long, as I work for a certain delivery company that is associated with the color brown. I literally have seen 2 of the 14's on the road since they hit dealerships. They are not selling around here for whatever reason. That worries me. Secondly, dealers seem reluctant to come off the price. The dealership I had found were advertising the truck I want at 48,800, and it stickers for 53,XXX. That is progress, but I still feel 50K for a gas half ton is borderline nuts. If we could get down to the low 40's , I think that is reasonable.

I have never been one to be afraid of buying a first year product, but after reading here, it is clear that there are some bugs that need to be worked out. I could not handle paying that much for a truck, knowing that there's a good chance that the truck will be in and out of the dealership right after driving off the lot. I know, I know, you only hear of problems on the internet, and the satisfied owners remain quiet. That is true, but there clearly seems to be some things that need to be addressed, and are not really isolated cases.

I plan to keep an eye on things, and hopefully the prices will come down, and the issues will be solved. Until then, I'll just keep what I have. I don't think I could handle paying that much money and not have things be perfect.

Well several things we need to mention here in response to your post...

1. The 2014's probably aren't selling like hotcakes yet because of the crazy rebates on the 2013's

2. The issues that I have read have mostly been minor. There are a few that have had major issues but those seem to be isolated. Mine has been perfect!

I wouldn't go back to my 09 if I had the chance. The 14 trucks have some minor issues but I promise you will be happy if u decide to go with it. GM trucks light years ahead of the tundra.

I'm going to wait for a while. The rebates and incentives will come, and hopefully the bugs will work out. This particular dealership started offering incentives at the first of this month, and I don't think they have any remaining 13's on the lot. The 14's just aren't moving, even with the slight discounts.

I understand that most of the issues are minor, but I still feel that when you pay that much money for a truck, you shouldn't need to worry about the seat coming loose, strange noises and irregular shifts in the transmission, malfunctioning power windows, and electronic systems that are hit or miss. These are the issues I've seen turn up over and over. I don't include a buy back, or a lemon in my concerns because there are bad apples and that is expected. However, I believe a new truck of this caliber shouldn't return to the dealer for anything other than an oil change for at least 2 or 3 years. It just seems like too many people are having issues right off the bat.

With the truck being all new, it makes you wonder how that stuff was overlooked in testing, and possibly what else may have been overlooked in more critical areas, like the engine.

I went from driving a Dodge diesel for 9 years to a 2013 4Runner. It has been a hard transition, but as the time passes, I am growing more fond of the 4Runner. The Chevy will be my next truck, it's just a matter of the timing being right.

I have a 2014 GMC Sierra and the only two issues i have had so far is a disconnected rod in the tailgate (Went to open tailgate and it wouldnt open, i took the access panel off and one of the rods had come unclipped or wasnt clipped fully when installed). The other issue is a squeking noice coming from the rear usually in the morning either from suspension or exhaust hanger. The noise is only heard in the morning or until the truck gets warmed up. I am waiting to seee if the noise goes away if not I will be taking it into the dealer first thing one morning so they can hear the sound.

well...1st post here, but figured id share my experience with my 14. has 4500 miles now. I work for a dealer, and my truck seems to be the only one with any issues of the ten or so we have sold so far.

1) drivers seat, clips were broken on the inside, moved all over, cover was backordered, finally fixed.

2) power sliding window, i currently have no rear seats in my pickup as we are waiting for a regulator to come in.

3) rear seats rattle something terrible, most of the last gen trucks (10,11,12,13) that i owned had a minor rattle, but nothing like this

4) homelink works intermittantly-my shop is going to order a new module and try that

5) passenger seat has a mettalic pop in the rear of the seat towards the top if you push on it at all

6)drivers side seat has a wierd movement in the seat cushion still. not sure what to do with it, on top of the movement it is very very noisy. sounds like an old truck.

7) laggy mylink

8) squeak when either the AFM comes off or gas is applied, seams to come from the rear of the truck somewhere, drivetrain related

lots of positives about this truck, fuel econ has been pretty positive, there just seems to be so many issues that sometimes the good is hard to see. Although i work at a dealer sometimes that is a curse, its a lot easier to tell me live with it then it would be to tell a customer the same thing. Hopefully someone can chime in with what a dealership did to fix thiers so i can point our tech in the right directions.

The issues that people are having with the seats, are they cloth or leather? I havent had any issues yet (1200miles) , but just want to be on the look out.

In reference to #6 do you have the crash avoidance, lane departure option?
