Getting my truck tuned was the best thing I could have done. The torque converter...It’s either locked up or not. No more 4cyl mode. 
 

I had it done around 50k miles. Now at 103k, dropped the pan to do the trans filter and looked brand new inside. Just some metal on the magnet. 

oh and 30 hp and 30 tq across the whole curve running on 89 pump gas.

Truck drives great now since all above work done last summer. Starting to like it again. I got a great deal on this truck so for me the additional expenses are still under book value. 

 

I hope this helps anyone experiencing same issues and saves you some time. 

 

 

My 2015 LT just started to vibrate at speeds around 70 MPH.  This just started at coincidently, 83k miles.  

 

I am the original owner and this s my first issue so far. The AFM for me is completely fine, nobody realizes it switches unless i tell them (dodged a bullet!)

 

Currently the truck drives smooth as it did on day 1 until recently.  Even under quick acceleration it drives smooth until 70ish.   

 

Thinking doing the custom steel driveshaft to hopefully solve the issue.  Is yours still doing good?  Do you think that has made the biggest difference?

after tinkering with my slip tables on the TCC lock up, i found when in gear my truck likes 0 slip , but when in V4 mode and locked up, it vibrates and rumbles like crazy with zero slip, so i kept the 10-20 rpm slip in v4 , its smooth now.  better yet just disable v4 and it will feel good

 

with zero slip under Lock up in 4-6th gear there is no rumbles vibes, go figure?? seems the vibes might only come into effect when the TCC locks in V4 mode..

 

i definatly agree with the post above, , i feel like the truck is in its power band when you dont lock the converter and lug the motor down with lock up in 1-3rd gear, it really lets the L83 wind up and it feels like 20 hp upgrade for free.

Hello,  I’m not a engineer and I don’t know how/why this shimmy is there but personally, I think you all are overthinking the driveshafts, tires, and whatever else you all have mentioned. I sole heartedly believe it has something to do with the AFM system. Period. Mine only does it sometimes on the same exact roads at the same(cruise controlled) speeds. I can notice the tach bouncing and I can feel the truck reacting to that. That is usually when it starts shaking. When the afm isn’t acting up and causing this bounce in the tach, the truck doesn’t shake at all! Period! Rides as smooth as you would ever expect anything to ride. I’m saving up to buy a programmer to disable that pile of $hit AFM SYSTEM AS SOON AS I CAN! Maybe there are a few different shakes that occur with these?? Mine may not shake for 6 months and then all of the sudden, BOOM. Shaker Engaged! Then 8 hours later, no more shake. I would think if it was mechanical, out of balance, it could not possibly come and go. That is not how I see mechanical issues working. If a tolerance is out on something it doesn’t miraculously fix itself. Or I don’t see how that’s possible. Again, no mechanical engineer here. So sorry if this is a incorrect statement. Mine shakes more severe some times and barely others. Hard shakes rattle my keys hanging from my ignition. And like I said, you can clearly see the tach bouncing… sometimes up to 400 rpm’s. If I get this thing tuned and it stops, I’ll try to remember to come back and let you know. I could be wasting my time, but at least in the end I’ll have that shitty AFM disabled! Dumbest thing ever for an engineer to come up with. In my opinion.

p.s. GM should be ashamed to allow such a deal to continue and expect their customers to figure this out on our own dime. Obviously they don’t care for their customers and time will tell how many they will lose over issues such as this!

I’ve also had issues with leaking windshield(from factory). Braking issues that was never fixed by the dealer with the recall, although they put it in the system as the recall being done. Now the brakes still go in operable at low speeds and they expect me to pay since the recall was “Done” and it has to “be something else”. Notably, the truck does have a “prior salvaged” title (from cosmetic/body damage, absolutely no mechanical items were ever touched other than tires removed to complete repairs!). So that’s their out and to me, it’s ridiculous. Scraping some paint off fenders and a hood doesn’t damage the internals of the vehicle. I love the truck, but GM has some serious customer service issues to resolve in order for me to buy another one.

I have to disagree with you that it is only related to AFM and torque converter. I have AFM disabled and did that a long time ago. You could be right though about torque converter contributing as it along with the GM trans have been know to have many issues. But there doesn't seem to be a one fix fits all. On mine, when it was really bad, getting my tires road forced balanced improved the shake tremendously. But I still sometimes get it. I now have a new set of tires installed maybe a year ago and I probably need to get those RFB'd as well. But I have also noticed that it only occurs on certain roads too.  Not sure why but besides the multitude of "fixes" suggested, maybe road surface is also a contributing factor? Another thing I seem to notice is that it is different if I have a full or nearly empty fuel tank as well as if I have several people or by myself, or an empty bed or carrying a load. No idea but on mine, the shake only pops up occasionally and is more of a minor irritation now so I just ignore it most of the time.

Little to no doubt GM knows what the cause or causes of the shake is. It's likely an expensive fix, so they choose to thumb their nose at the buyer/customer and ignore the problem.... shame on GM, especially after the bail out. GM sucks, plain & simple. I know two people who got rid of their GM trucks and went to another brand and are quite pleased with their move. Funny, in a recent mailing/sales pitch I received from GM they had a bunch of verbiage regarding how they plan to, for lack of better words, get on the "woke" band wagon. Very impressive that they indicate how much they care, when they really don't. Rant over...

i just discovered the trans mount bushing on my 2016 truck was missing the nut that bolted it to the trans crossmember, basically the trans was resting on the crossmember allowed to float and vibrate against it.  just purchased the oem nut from GM, i dont feel any vibes .. cost $12

Somebody's had the trans out, probably to replace the converter or install updated anti drainback valve. Are you original owner?

trans has never been touched by dealer, i'm origional owner, did the first filter change yesterday, and was pushong up on the shaft yoke and was shocked i could lift the rear tailshaft off the rubber mount.

Worst trucks on the road currently. And I've had every brand.

i think they are the better designed trucks in terms of reliability with simple 6 speed and pushrod LS motors. i do feel GM is sabatoging thier products with engineered in defects or quirks. this is something they do in the past with other models that where hits with the public, like B-bodie, G-bodies, 1990-96 Caprice/SS impalas, Fiero, square body Blazer, Chevelle, etc, etc....

Been having this vibration in my truck for awhile now. I had my diff fluid and rear end fluids changed to Amsoil and at least since then had this vibration sound. It goes away over probably 50 percent throttle. Any idea what this might be? Ignore the ice jiggling in the cup.

My truck will vibrate sometimes where u can see the console moving 1/4" back and forth, even the passenger seat will shake. It really pisses me off considering how much the truck cost. Truth be told I feel like I am driving a pos most times because of the issue and lack of knowing how to fix it. Pretty disappointing...

 

It baffles me that GM has not been able to tell their customers what the issue is and what the fix is.

   There are many causes for the vibrations in the 2014 to 2018 generation of Silverados. Some happen when the motor changes to V4 mode for fuel economy,which is a common one but at least that one can be fixed with a workaround by the customer,not an official fix from the dealer. There are many other circumstances and causes  where vibrations occur at different speeds etc.

   I had one very similar to what you have and it only happened on the highway at speeds above 60 mph. The service manager at the dealer knew what I was talking about as soon as I mentioned it and they went through a big dog and pony show with several visits for service and ultimately said it was a normal characteristic and nothing could be done to fix it.

   Chevrolet corporate customer service was no help,they basically said there was no failed repair because no problem was found. The service manager and some of the techs even made remarks about Lemon Law,probably because others had done do and they  figured I would also.

   I ended up getting a Lemon Law lawyer online and he said he had handled hundreds of similar cases with GM trucks of that generation. I ended up getting a cash settlement from GM that covered the depreciation to that date.

    My truck was a brand new 2018 and it did it soon as I got on the highway after I picked it up from the dealership.

I ended up trading it in when it was six months old with 2000 miles on a new F150 which has been fine so far. Didn't really end up in the hole due to the settlement.  

   All this after having purchased 5 new GM vehicles over the last 25 years and it didn't matter to GM Customer Service ,at which point I told them I was through as a GM customer.

   As far as I know this is not a problem with the new generation of trucks that started in 2019.

Check out TSB 18-NA-355.  Root cause solution may be fluid upgrade to eliminate TCC issues.

    • If everything checks out at the MAF, then the MAF is BAD, new or not.   You don't need a signal generator to troubleshoot this. PCM needs ALL powers and ALL grounds able to light a halogen headlight bulb - if it can light the bulb bright, then the wiring is good enough to run the PCM.   Best thing you can do for yourself is spend some time here: scannerdanner.com - Check out all his YouTube videos on similar issues. If you decide to subscribe it's the best bang-for-buck ratio in the automotive world, hands-down. He's got TONS of free vids on YouTube, too.
    • Yes, I used my multimeter to probe all of the wires at the MAF, both with the sensor connected, sensor disconnected, key on engine off, key on engine running, etc etc etc. I probed all of the wires again at the PCM, at the connectors, etc. All voltages are what they should be according to the service manual/wiring diagrams. All grounds are good, less than 20 millivolts from the battery negative under load. Both at the connector of the MAF, at the PCM connector etc.      I know this throws a pretty big wrench into things, but this truck was acting up before the swap. I don't have very much information, if any on what was causing it, but if you cleared all of the dtcs it would do the same thing where it would crank, fire, then die. And it would do the same thing a dozen or so times, and eventually it would start and run, but the difference is that it would run and actually be drivable. Whereas now if you can drive it at all, it goes into reduced power mode almost immediately, and even then it's not running correctly. When you come to a stop at a light it stumbles down to for 500 RPM before catching itself and returning to the smooth idle. And if you go more than about 50% throttle then it immediately goes back to doing the misfire thing.    Like I said, I know that throws a wrench into things, and unfortunately I was not able to pull any data or anything like that before I did this work, so I don't have much to go on.    I'm trying to not fixate on one particular thing as the cause of the problem, but it seems like all avenues are pointing me towards the PCM. Like I said I have tested the wiring extensively (see above), and during cranking the sensor does produce seemingly legitimate values at least according to my multimeter, but as soon as the engine fires those values quickly descend into gibberish. I've tried it with multiple different known working sensors, I have done literally every test I can think of multiple times on the wiring (probing the signals, probing the pins with the sensors unplugged, probing the pins at the PCM, voltage drop, voltage drop under load, continuity, ohms, and double-checking everything against the wiring diagrams/ proper values in the service data.)    Another thing that pushes me towards a possible PCM failure is, I have noticed in troubleshooting a little bit taking a break and coming back, that when I leave the truck to sit for a while and cool off, it starts and runs smoothly when I first start it up. However once it warms up. It starts having problems. For example, when I went out to the truck this morning after it had been sitting overnight, I was actually able to drive it down the block. And then once I got on the throttle a Little bit after going about a thousand ft, it started misfiring again. I pulled it back into the driveway, shut it down, and started it back up. It idled smoothly. As soon as I touched the throttle it did the misfire thing again. From then on as soon as I started it it would misfire. I shut the truck off and went to go get a coffee and do a bit more research. When I came back out I started the truck up and it immediately went into the smooth idle. After a couple of minutes of playing around with it, it would not idle smoothly anymore. Let it sit a couple of hours, rinse and repeat. This makes me think with temperature change something is going wrong inside the PCM. I have the PCM out of the 2007 donor vehicle and I'm thinking of getting a one-day subscription to the ACDelco programming service to try and program that and see if it helps.   Like I said, I'm really trying to not fixate myself on one potential cause, but it seems everything is pointing me towards PCM failure. I would really like to try to confirm that, but unfortunately I don't have an oscilloscope or a signal generator to do the GM service procedure where you feed 5 khz into the signal pin. 
    • Ahh, sorry about that - I got some bad info. Newdude is correct. That's what I get for working 13 hours straight ... on my "vacation", lol.   Should've checked the files I had instead of the internet.   Anyway ... this is GREAT news, since this would've been an absolute friggin nightmare to get working.   I don't think the lack of VVT is causing this - you've got another issue. Wiring, I'm betting.   I'm telling you right now, your computer isn't bad. If it worked before the swap, it's working now. You need to do some more (better) diagnostics and figure out exactly what you're missing. Did you test every wire directly at the MAF? Have 5V reference? Ground? If you're reading ZERO g/s, your Hz isn't much use - it's going to be the wrong value anyway. The MAF is not working, and you need to find out WHY.   I got this off the net, so VERIFY first: Pin A: Black (BLK) wire, Circuit 552, serves as the Sensor Return (Ground).  Pin B: Tan (TAN) wire, Circuit 472, carries the Intake Air Temperature (IAT) signal.  Pin C: Yellow (YEL) wire, Circuit 492, is the primary MAF Sensor Signal output to the PCM. Pin D: Pink (PNK) wire, Circuit 339 or 539, provides Ignition 1 Voltage (Power).  Pin E: Tan/Black wire, Circuit 552 or similar, often associated with the Intake Air Temperature ground or signal return.  Global-A list: https://postimg.cc/KKJnQC85    
    • Correct....the end user can't reach to Realtruck directly like they can if they purchase a Bak, Undercover, etc...  It has to go through a dealer.
