Just got an email from GM, they are finishing up processing the paperwork in the next couple minutes. The close date is being scheduled for 5 Business days from today, so I get the Denali is 7 days.

Jeezuz, this is just like prom night, the anticipation is killing us! Good luck, and I hope the first shaker has not set your vibration sensor to ultra sensitive! lol

I can definitely say that I have felt it to a much lesser degree in every 2017 GM truck I have driven, so I can say right now that it won't be as smooth as it should be, but will still way way way better than my 2015.

Hi everyone.

I joined to add my truck to the list exhibiting the Chevy Shake :(

 

I picked up this 2016 Silverado, LTZ Z71 with the 6.2l. Beautiful truck, inside and out, but dang does it vibrate on the interstate! I bought it CPO October 25th with 9200miles on the odometer. After the first trip out of town I couldn't believe how bad the ride was. I felt really bad for my kid in the back seat being shaken up for 3 hours each way.

So I brought it to the dealer and they told me even though the tires road force balanced to less than 12lbs each, one of the tires actually looked out-of-round and they replaced it. The new tire road force balanced to less than 4lbs.

Fast forward two weeks and I'm back on the highway, bouncing *almost* all the way up north. I have video that I've shown the service advisor and he seemed to admit some of these trucks exhibit this problem. They're getting it back tonight before I fly out for the remainder of the week. I'm hopeful (but also doubtful) that the issue will be resolved this visit.

General description of the symptoms on my truck: Minor and inconsistent vibrations from about 45mph - 65mph. Sometimes it is noticeable, other times I can pretty much convince myself it is road conditions.

Major vibrations 70mph+ to about 82mph. Oddly the vibration is worse BY FAR on smooth, new concrete. Old patches of road with expansion joints/defects/etc seem to tame the vibration considerably, though I can of course still feel the road problems.

 

I'm coming out of a Porsche Cayenne Turbo due to it's frequent need for dealer visits. Man would this be ironic if the Silverado has to keep visiting the dealer too.

 

Anyhow, I'm glad this thread exists at least for my own sanity. Can't make this stuff up.

Crazy! Those are my issues exactly! Vibration between 70-82 and it's worse on smooth roads. I'm taking my truck in to a driveline shop this Saturday. They are a very respectable shop. I'll see what they say. Hopefully it's just a bad driveshaft. Keep me posted on what they tell you. 3 dealerships ive gone to. They were all useless. Edited by EspoMan

What was the history of the truck? If you haven't done so already, ask the dealer for a warranty history report. I'd bet you'll find a bit of information regarding the previous owner's attempts to fix the problem.

Good suggestion. When we came across what looked like a fantastic deal, I was trying to figure in my head why someone would trade a truck like this after only a few months and 9k miles. I decided it must have been grandpa's new truck and he could no longer drive, or perhaps a repo. I guess I have a pretty good idea now, but a history report is a great idea. This truck is replacing the duties of my crappy (but trusty) old '93 sierra for utility, and the Cayenne for family trips & DD.

In my mind, these symptoms do not fit a tire/wheel out of balance issue. I've had that. A wheel out of balance doesn't come and go depending on road surface, nor does it change in intensity like this. It is most similar to when my Porsche had the driveshaft center support bearing bushing torn/beginning stages of failing. Match-mounting and road-force balancing tires/wheels minimized the effect on that car too but replacing the center support bearing was the magic bullet. Please do share your results. I'll do the same, but it'll be early December before I'll have the need to be driving out of town again.

Off topic, but it is an 04 with 180k miles. It has had EVERY documented issue known to the rennlist and renntech forums (several more than once.) I've been fixing them all as they happen, but decided I'm in a position to enjoy a new truck that won't need to visit the shop all the time. Ha!

quick update... Got an email from them today. Close is a week from today, not yesterday like originally thought. but the date is set now, no more "were almost there" crap from them... FINALLY

Let us know what the driveline shop says. Mine is going in to the dealer in morning for load balancing. I seriously doubt this will improve the vibration issue.

Yeah no problem. I will definitely keep you guys posted. I am hopeful, since mine is not AS bad as some people here. I'm gonna tackle the steering wheel vibration next. It's minor but drives me nuts.

I tightened down then loosened the transmission mounts, 60 to 15 to 32 foot pounds.

Drove around for a few days with 60 foot pounds, although stiffer - horrible as you felt it all

Vibration from the rear was felt a lot more.

 

Back down to 32 foot pounds and the vibes are less.

 

 

 

 

Has anyone replaced the transmission mounts.

After 35 years of GM vehicle ownership, I recently traded in my 2014 Bouncing Betty (yes she had the vibration / bouncing issue at 70 and a ticking noise with less than 24 thousand miles) and purchased a New Nissan Titan XD. Yesterday I was driving in Michigan, where the speed limit seems to be 85, when all of a sudden I realized that I was doing 85 and there was no vibration or bouncing. WE need to file a class action lawsuit! I really want this fixed, I want to be a GM owner again. My Nissan has done nothing wrong - No issues at all - but I still crave the Chevy look when I drive by. GM knows what the problem is - WE need to force them to fix this issue! It is time for a class action lawsuit.

Jesse tried to get numerous Lawyers to take a class action. They all declined, they're not interested unless the problem has killed someone.

Which, of course, is ridiculous because there have been plenty of class action lawsuits for silly things that didn't kill anyone like extra fees being charged on cell phone bills or improper medical insurance billing.

I figure it again is just not widespread enough for there to be any money in it. A lawyer won't take a case if there isn't enough money.

    • The problem with failure rates or increase failures are there’s people who don’t have a problem. What are you doing wrong they say. We had 4 5.7 GM diesel’s in the family when they came out. One was flawless. My uncle who happened to be the most abusive. Early rotary engines were known to use oil. I abused my first car so bad in six months I replaced the clutch, transmission and rear end. It didn’t use oil. My brother in law has a 2013 Tahoe and an older Yukon. The Yukon has 280K miles. The Tahoe around 175K. He runs them to about 300K. If his lifters fail before that time he would consider it a failure. My Hondas, I know people hate it when I mention them. Identical engines. One with cylinder deactivation one doesn’t have it. One shudders when the eco light goes on or off. Cylinder deactivation. But wait! According to the web. It can happen with lock up too. So now people in the know are changing the oil and transmission fluid more often. Then you read it could be a programing issue. So what do you do? There’s lots of money involved. I see three ways to deal with it. One only works if you don’t drive lots of miles. Lease, never get out of warranty. Or only buy older vehicles with a good track record. They all have bad runs. Usually when there’s a change. Even Toyota and Honda. 
    • Question @diyer2 on this line if you please. Are you saying the shudder is the system turning on and off at the frequency of the shudder? Guess I'm asking if you are saying you have seen it do this with the bi-direction scan tool in graph mode? If so have you been able to discern the 'trigger'. Something is telling to cycle rapidly.    My truck just started doing this recently. 197K on the clock. My response has been M5 anything under 55 mph. I treat it like a lugging stick shift. Gear down and let it spin a bit. Engauge M5, then tow mode and then M6 lets the trans stay in 5th but the AFM is active. Smooth like Skippy.    My thought was that as a machine ages the friction gets lower and as the system is load based, the lower friction would allow it to turn on at ever lower rpm until it reaches the lugging point. And yes I am ignorant of any minimum rpm requirement for the system. If you know that would be useful information.    As you know I run a Scan-Gauge II which allows me to watch the On/Off of the signal to the VLOM. While in the shudder mode I'm not seeing is cycle at that frequency or at all for that matter outside the triggers @newdude posted a few years back. Now is it possible that the refresh rate isn't fast enough to catch it? Maybe. It is why I asked my first question about graphing and trigging parameter.     As we have observed from members here the failure point is all over the map miles wise as you note yourself in your opening post. That by itself begs a few questions like fellows that comment on these lifters failing even after the system has been disabled.     • UPDATE 2: Steering wheel control backlights and control of the cluster can supposedly be achieved by adding a wire to pin 20 of the cluster and tapping it to pin 2 of the main clock spring harness. I'm going to give it a shot - will update  
    • GM Global A pickups 2019-2022 can do OTA programming for the radio.  GM VIP (GM Global B) can do OTAs for almost every module on board.  So a 2022.5 and newer pickup can do OTAs for recalls like the 2.7 fuel flow recall.  EVs get OTAs that improve one pedal driving, radio issues, HVAC issues, updated battery management software, etc.     So age of the vehicle/what GM electrical platform its on will alter what amount of updates can be pushed on OTAs.  
    • Thank You.   So far my new ride is making me look like a genius for going with the 3.0L, as my first fuel refill occurred over three weeks from when I took delivery.  This engine combination is very amazing.  So far no issues and had not done a regen yet.
