I had my dealer fix the seat movement issue and the fix lasted for about 2 weeks. It is now worse than it was when I brought it in...

Update...I just took the time to actually look at the fix and noticed the tab on the new retainer clip had popped out of place. It looks like it is going to keep happening so I am going to resort to the hose clamp fix.

Do you guy's not read the posts in this thread? Why don't you just do the clamp method fix and be done with it? No dealers, no down time and you don't have to worry about it being worse than before you brought it to the dealer. There's countless posts of members who have brought their trucks back to the dealer several times for this. Save yourself time, trouble and aggravation.

I agree, there are 51 pages of this mess, and I'm one of the dummies, that tried to let dealer fix and ended up with a ding in my left rear door at the dealer, did the hose clamp over a year ago and no more problems, and if it ever loosen up, I'll just retighten ........................I like ..............DIY

The "seat slop" issue got me about eight weeks ago. I waited a couple weeks of never remembering to call my local dealer during working hours but, once I called, they set up an appointment for the following week. When I dropped it off mid day, mine was the second vehicle of the day to have the issue. They did dig into it and found the lower seat frame needed to be replaced. Took about 2 weeks to get the parts in and then they replaced it.

The seat is great now. Sure, I need to remove a plastic trim piece and install it properly but, at least my seat is fixed. The dealer didn't mess around with clips, shims, or any other sort of work around, they went right to the actual issue and replaced the faulty part instead of trying to band aid it.

They didn't give me too many details about the diagnosis but I'd heard of the clips as an unsuccessful fix so I was just glad when they acknowledged something was faulty and actually needed to be replaced.

Is there a bulletin # for the seat on a 2014 GMC Sierra Crew cab?

Ok here we go again. Please read the posts in the thread. There is a bulletin but people have brought their trucks back to the dealers several times for this with no success and ended up using the clamps. Save yourself time, headache, aggravation, a dinged up door, seat poorly put back together and most times being worse than before it was brought to the dealer. DO THE HOSE CLAMP FIX.

You can "Do it yourself" and hoseclamp to your hearts content... but if the lower seat needs replacing, it needs replacing. The hose clamp won't work because the problem is the clip you have your hose clamp up against is broken. Instead of being able to replace that plastic clip, they have to replace the seat frame. You can usually tell if the clip is broken by lifting up on the seat, one side will go up quite a bit further than the other.

For what it's worth, I did the hose clamp fix on mine and about once a month the issue would return. Took it into a dealer once and problem solved for good. Had it on there for a while now and no issues. I understand people doing the DIY route as I did myself, but if there's a fix for a known issue, why not get it done? If for whatever reason it doesn't work then you should probably find another dealer.

The dealer did the hose clamp fix. It only works temporarily. The seat will eventually start moving again on you, they are poorly/cheaply made. The dealers generally suck about it. It looks like the seat issues will ALWAYS come back unless they replace the frame. How many people have this problem and the dealers have said it's normal? It's incredibly aggravating to drive with the seat moving around and the dealer saying it's normal -- the back and forth with the dealer.

I had the hose clamp in place, lasted about a month or two before it started slipping. Tried to tighten, but would still slip. Went to the dealer for a recall (15304) fix and asked them to change oil and take a look at the seat. They acknowledged the seat issue and the svc mgr said they have a fix, but it doesn't always work. At least he was being honest. They performed PI1183A http://oemdtc.com/12126/front-seat-lateral-movement-andor-click-type-noise-while-driving-2014-chevrolet-silverado-gmc-sierra

Seems solid so far, only time will tell if I need to go back to the hose clamps. Svc mgr said he could order new tracks but he is supposed to perform PI1183A first, and to let him know if it starts slipping again. Appears to be a newer than PI1376. Didn't see any shims mentioned and I do see that black-ish plastic retainer that's in the last picture of the instructions linked above.

Is anyone having trouble with the later '15's or is this just a '14 issue?

My '15 started doing it after around 2000 miles, brought it back to dealer and they fixed it changing the retainer clips, and some lubrication as per the bulletin. After all the reading I did about it, I was worried about the fix working but it seems to be just fine, no movement or noises....been a few thousand miles now

For those of you who have (in the opinion of others) "wasted" there time on a dealer fix for this problem, only to have it come back again. Here is a permanent fix. What is happening is the dealer installed retainer clip is popping out of the white seat hinge which is allowing the seat to move again. By installing a hose clamp around the retainer clip it will not allow it to pop out and it will still allow full range of motion on the seat.

A 2" hose clamp and 5 minutes should take care of the problem FOREVER!! (I hope)

*EDIT* After looking closer at post #762 above, it appears the dealer was supposed to install a zip tie around the retainer clip to keep it in place. In my case...they didn't...hence the need for the hose clamp.

    • Well that book won't sell many copies. Taking ones right foot off the loud pedal never gets applause. Funny really, It isn't that people don't know what to do...they just don't want to do it. But they will complain about it. About bad craftsmanship, about the cost of fuel, about the cost of part and repairs and mainly they complain that the solution while still possible isn't one they are willing to do.    I observe this daily. 'Gas cost to much!", they wail, while they mat it passing at 80+ mpg and scoot down the road like gas cost a dime a gallon. Then complain about the few that will lift and save both fuel and iron like they are owed and own the road.    Good thing they haven't an ounce of influence on my equipment. The rest I just laugh at. Stupid is as stupid does, right Forest?
    • Today I filled up with 4.899 gallons of fuel at a cost of $4.899 a gallon. $24 bucks. 290 miles. 59.2 mpg. After my 4% COSTCO discount just under eight cents a mile.
    • Howdy folks,   Recently I pulled a heated steering wheel and clock spring out of a 2015 Sierra All Terrain (part numbers coming soon - will have to disassemble), and just installed it on my 2016 Sierra WT (as base model as it gets).   On install, I noticed that I’m missing the connector often tucked behind the dash for the heating element.     No problem… or so I thought.   I used an “Add-A-Fuse” at my heated steering wheel fuse location, which has voltage, but no wires. I ran it to the positive of the heated steering wheel (Violet/White), and took black to ground.   Hooked up the battery, turned the truck on - no heated steering wheel. No button backlights. Was pleased to see that my cruise control was working though.   Read a post suggesting reversing polarity, so I gave it a shot. Violet and White to ground, Black to power.    Aha! Heat! But I seemingly can’t turn it off AND still no backlights on any of the buttons.    Checked all fuses, everything is still in good order. I’m stumped.   Does anyone have any insight? If so, please share!
    • I'm about 1800 miles into my last oil change, and yesterday a message appeared saying oil life was at 77%. Not sure why it popped up but I think all of these electronics could be susceptible to solar flares or somesuch. I change my oil right at 3K each time, and that was the first time in 10870 miles that message came up. Strange thing is that it showed on the screen at all since I don't drive with that sort of info displayed on the DIC.
