Mine makes all kinds of weird noises at different times. I haven't driven it enough to pinpoint when they happen. I get the popping sound in the rear, a popping sound in the front. A sort of consistent whining noise, from the front driver side, very subtle, that comes and goes at the exact same time intervals at highway speed. like a weeeeoooooweeeeeeooooweeeeeeooooo.. Best i can duplicated it in text. My truck makes ALOT of noises over even slight bumps. Just don't have time, with work, to deal with any of it.

Got a call from the Maintenance department at the dealership. They were not able to duplicate the problem until this morning, but are baffled on what's causing it... It's been 4 days now since I dropped off the truck. Not impressed.

Will let ya'll know what comes out of this, hopefully in the near future

Ok... I picked up my truck today after being at the dealership for a full almost a week. The outcome still the same, unable to replicate.

This is the second time I have had my truck at the dealer to find out the problem. I have pointed out that the shocks seemed to have been the culprit for most of the owners on this forum, but can't fix what they can't replicate is the answer.

This is frustrating, because as an owner we are the ones holding the bag with these issues. I guess I will continue to take the truck back each time the problem occurs.

**Revision

If anyone has had their shocks replaced and this took care of your problem please send me a message with your dealer's service department information so I can have mine get in touch with them and get this taken care of.

Your help is greatly appreciated.

I wish I had something positive to add at this point. However, I'm in the same boat so to speak. And get this...my truck has been at the dealership for 3 weeks now..,and it's still there!! They've replaced the differential and the transfer case...and it still makes the noise. They thought they had it nailed when they replaced the differential..because the bearings were shot because there were metal shavings in there from the manufacturer....and apparently it looked to them like the clutches in the transfer case looked burnt...which is the reason they replaced that. So, they thought with all these problems getting fixed that would fix the popping noise. But it hasn't! When I picked this truck up at the dealership it had 20 miles on it and I've babied it since I've had it. I took in it 3 weeks ago with 1700 miles on it. I think I bought a lemon. At least the mechanic and the service manager can hear the popping. And they say it isn't normal and are working diligently on it...and have been in close contact with GM. I know one thing...this purchase of a brand new vehicle has put a bad taste in my mouth about GM. I think they have some serious Quality Control issues. My next new vehicle will be Ford! And the funny thing is...I've been a GM guy all my life!

Got under mine today and sprayed the rear spring shackles with WD-40 and stopped the noise...somethimes it is much easier to "do it yourself" than screw with the warranty people..

Revised***** Took mine in for the recall update and service dept determined that the rear Rancho shocks need to be replaced....will be installed 1-28-14 and hopefully cures the popping noise......if not I will post; if cured I'll be happy! :happysad:

See my other post under shake/vibration thread..page 39...The new shocks did not stop the thunking..on further investigation by shaking the bed harshly SIDE TO SIDE...the noise is coming from the center chunk of the differential....I checked 2 more '14s and 2 '13s (one of which my son drives) and no movement or slop at the hubs and therefore no noise!...Taking mine back in Feb. 4th and they are gonna look inside the differential (rear end) and see what the problem is....I will post what we find and if it cures the thunking-popping noise only when making turns....the Svc Mgr and I both agree that this may be also causing or adding to the vibration issue at 70-75 also...As posted before the change from GY's to Bridgestone Duelers took about 95% of my vibration out of my truck...

The GM gurus continue (as they have since August 2013!!) to ignore these nationwide problems!! And I'll say again: I love this truck otherwise... :driving:

Update...

Took my truck today for the third time and had the service manager and two other techs ride with me. Fortunately (situational wise) they were able to hear the noise more than once, to what they stated could be a rear drive/line issue. Basically it could be anything.

While I'm glad they could hear the problem and are/will work on fixing it, I'm frustrated that it has taken this long.

I will post another update as soon as I have one.

I get the same noise from the drivers side front. I only notice it at 60-70 mph. I drove another truck on the dealers lot and it made the same sound.

This is a follow up for my popping issue. Well, they finally found the noise. I could write a book here as to what I've been through with this truck. However, to make a long story short...the noise ended up being in the transmission. I could explain it or repeat here what the report says...but I'm exhausted over this issue. The dealership has been in close contact with the GM and their tech department. They have been communicating back and forth with their Engineers...and they finally figured it out!! Getting here to the resolve has been a long drawn out process. To explain that...they found numerous other problems with my truck in the process...and there will service bulletins created as a result of what they have found (they've had to replace the differential, tighten several loose bolts on the body and replace the transfer case...and get this, the new transfer case is leaking so I had to take it back to the dealership today. I've had this truck 8 weeks and I've only been able to drive it for a total of 4 weeks). So, either way...I want out of this truck. In other words, I'm now going to pursue every avenue possible, up to and including legal action to get GM to either replace this truck or take it back. I've been stuck with either a bad truck off the assembly line or it's going to be a lemon for as long as I own it. Supposedly, the GM regional rep is going to be contacting me within the week in order to work out a deal to trade me straight across for a new truck. However, if I don't hear from him soon, I WILL contacting an attorney. As I said, I could write a book here...but I wanted to cut it short. I am angry and exhausted in dealing with this brand new truck. I just hope this helps someone!

so they fixed your truck but you still want to trade it under the lemon law???? just an fyi if you take legal action towards GM they will no longer talk to you, and if you try and call them and talk about it, the min you give them your info a "red flag" will pop up and they will tell you that they cannot talk to you about anything since you are taking legal action. your best bet is to just keep it civil. I don't know what all you know about vehicles but no matter what brand you go with you will have problems. I am a GM guy and I will prob never buy a ford or dodge due to some of their dumbs s**** they call engineers. but even though im a GM guy I know GM vehicles will have issues ESPECIALLY first year vehicles. fords have their own separate problems, go search a f150 forum and see what you find. ford still cant get their coil on plug issue ironed out and they have had issues with those since 05-06... they get misfires randomly, you think your clunk/pop/creak noise is bad, try driving a truck that misfires at low rpms including idle.

im glad you got your truck fixed and it seems that the service tech found some possible issues with other k2's.

As I've mentioned in previous posts...I've always been a GM guy as well. I'm 53 years old and have owned at least 20 (if not more) GM trucks (mostly all chevy's) in my life time...and I've never had the issues that I've had with this vehicle...AND IT'S BRAND NEW!! All my buddies have been GM truck guys and several of them have switched to Ford...and they are happy they did. A couple of them were such die hard GM fans, that I could have lost a fortune had I bet they would have never switched...in fact, it was a huge shock. Whether I switch brands or not...I'm not sure...it depends on how GM handles this. I know all brands have their own issues and I've always been told never to buy a first year model vehicle...but I did it anyway, because I really liked the body style...so that is probably a lesson in itself. As for legal action...I will do whatever it takes. I don't want to get legal if I don't have to...but sometimes you have to do what you have to do. And if it gets to the point where GM is not wanting to work with me on trading me out of this truck and into another one...then I will have no choice but to pursue legal action. At that point I will have nothing to loose. Either way, I want out of this particular truck. I think this truck is going to be plagued with ongoing problems. In other words, I think this truck just happens to be one that came off the line that is destined to be a lemon...it's going to be bad karma. Like I said, at least there will be Service Bulletins written because of this situation. One of the most important is the metal shavings that were found in the differential. Their belief, from the evidence and characteristic of metal shavings, is that the manufacturer who builds the differential for GM, actually assembled it and forgot to drill the fill hole and drilled it after the fact. The metal shavings are spiral in nature and obviously made by a drill bit. So if nothing else, hopefully that will help other people. The dealership that has been handling this has been awesome to work with...although it took me taking it to 3 different dealerships before one would actually take the time to look into the problem. As I've mentioned before...this has been an eye opening experience and educational if nothing else...on how GM handles warranty work. I've been told by two different Service Managers from two different dealerships that the reason most dealerships will not take the time to diagnose anything is because GM does not reimburse them for their diagnoses time. So, unless something is blatantly broke or it's a Service Bulletin or Recall...they will not spend any time looking for issues. Because in other words, if a mechanic spends 4 hours looking for an issue...finds the issue and it takes 1 hour to fix...all they get reimbursed for is the 1 hour labor. GM does NOT pay for the diagnoses time...so the mechanic loses money. Either way, this has been a very frustrating experience...the inconvenience of back and forth trips to the dealership...the time missed from work, personal time and so on. I've owned this vehicle for 8 weeks and 4 of those weeks it's been sitting on a lift at the dealership...it's brand new with only 1800 miles on it as I write this post. I'm an Engineer in the private jet aerospace industry and I know if we were to sale a product like this, plagued with these problems...we would be bending over backwards to rectify it...or we would have lawyers crawling all over us. GM should be bending over backwards to address all these issues with everyone that has bought one of their products...especially after our tax money was used to bail them out!

I have tried to pay more attention to my noise. Every time it happens I swear I have something in the bed of my truck moving. It does seem to be worse on cold days and or wet days. If i get a cold morning with fog in the air its the worse. It does it the worse when making tight turns. Happens when stopping and starting. Never at high speeds. Last night I noticed it was doing it consistently when I creeped forward in the parking lot with my foot slightly on the brake. I have also notice the noise happens with the turning of the drive train. The noise will happen, then stop, then happen again. It speeds up with the vehicle. So that eliminates shocks or bushings for me. If it was the differential I don't see the humidity in the air effecting it. I'm almost dead set it is in the brakes. With the rear of the truck it could be the disc brakes or the emergency brake. I wonder if their is a drag on one of the pads or shoes. Or as I mentioned before a stuck caliper pin. A slight drag on the shoes would explain why both temperature and wetness can effect it. Also why it normally goes away after driving a little bit. I also heard the exact same sound once in the right front drive train. Which again makes me wanna think brakes. I'm thinking about expecting the brakes on the truck myself. I wanna grease all the caliper pins and put some grease between the pads and calipers. Also check the e brake for any missing or bad springs. I had a 2000 Camaro once and every time I made a left turn from a dead stop their was a loud pop. The car was brand new. The dealer completely took apart the rear end checking the diff and drive train. After a month in the shop it never got fixed. They even called in a different tech from GM. A few weeks later I was working on the car to upgrade the brake pads and noticed one of the caliper pins in the front passenger side was seized and not moving. After freeing it up and greasing it the noise had stopped. Goes to show even though it was the front brakes even the main tech at the dealer swore it was in the rear end.

LOL that reminds me of the time a few years ago when the cruise control stopped working on my brand new truck. I took it in and they diagnosed it as a bad cruise control module and ordered a replacement. When I got home I was curious as to what it looked like and slid under the truck to see. To my surprise the wiring was chewed (yes we had a new puppy at the time) so I spliced it back together and never took it back to that worthless service department they obviously never even looked at the truck just kept it for 2 days like they were doing something and then ordered a part. Bunch of clowns I think they all operate very similar.

I had identical thoughts to yours regarding a possible brake issue. Logic makes perfect sense. Only problem is, I've been under the truck and the noise seems to be coming from above the rear shock. I can push up on the body and hear the noise a few times before it stops. Can't quite see a body mount.

I don't know at this point. I'm really at a loss because I agree that the noise seems to be related to the wheel rotating. I guess I should take a look at the brakes on the right rear and see.

I pretty sure mine is only happening when it's wet outside. I still blame a shock or body mount as my sound is not a pop.. but more a "creaking" sound. Only low speed over slightly bumpy surface like dirt road. It also seems to go away when the truck warms up a bit..
