Overhead console small tiny dot in middle and other things

Recommended Posts

2015 WT 3500 SRW CREW 4x4

Removing my overhead console to install a rocker switch panel and it’s driving me crazy trying to figure out what that little tiny dot in the middle is!!!  If I look close it looks like some kind of a light sensor?  I noticed nothing happening if I cover it with my finger but I have a WT model so I don’t have anything fancy!

Over an hour of googling and looking at every parts diagram but the diagrams for overhead console don’t show a number next to that one!  I’ve even put the part number in directly that’s on the plug and get nothing!

Of course I ask because I’m going to cut that out and replace it with the panel and if has no use in this truck and it’s just there for the fancier version’s then I’m safe

Also, on the dashboard in the middle right next to the windshield is that bubble which I always thought was for the security system and keyless lock unlock, but I just noticed it’s for automatic headlights and such? But yet the owners manual refers to it as a something to do with the security system?

And last question, if the bubble is for day and night sensor where is the receiver for the remote control? I know the actual location of the receiver but is there not a separate window or something that’s exposed in a better location, cuz I can click this thing from 100 yards away and it locks and find it hard to believe the receiver that’s buried is actually that sensitive?

In short everything I thought I knew about what those things were for, I no longer do and I’m really confused now lol

In my truck the little. On the overhead console is an LED light at night time go in your truck and put your hand up in the way and you will notice where the  cup holders are gets darker. In a lower trim level it may not be the case but the hole is there. The Bubble on the dash is the sensor for your automatic lights and I believe it does couple as a red alarm indicator. The remote start is extremely sensitive I can be in my commercial building which has 12 inch thick brick walls and it still starts my truck from inside. Ultra sensitive

That little map light is there a button to turn it on or does it stay on?  Seeing as I have never noticed the light in three years I’m assuming it isn’t that bright!!!! LMAO

OK I just checked it and there’s no light coming from it at all so maybe it’s blown, which is why I never noticed the light!

It works when it’s dark out just like the lights in the door handles (if so equipped). I assume the lights use the dash sensor that tells the headlights to come on and dash lights to dim when it’s not sunny.

Yeah it’s dead as a door nail, does nothing day or night that I can see!

But, I was able to mount the rocker switch panel into the console and still leave it exposed!

I have six rocker switches and then 3-12 volt outlets below and I absolutely love it there!!! Spent a week trying to figure in my head where to mount it and it came out pretty nice!

I may start a thread with pictures
