All the mirror needs is power and ground for dimming. There is a 3rd wire that can be connected to the reverse wire to turn off the dimming when in reverse, but it's not required unless it really bugs you when you back out of a dark garage into bright sun.

Correct, once the power and ground are connected, the mirror will autodim when a bright light is detected by the sensor. I tested it with a flashlight before I put everything back together.

Partially finished installing the rear view camera mirror in my 2023 Elevation with a plain non dimming mirror. I used the gen5diy radar harness, ordered with extra power leads. It uses what I think is the factory rain sensor, behind the mirror, to connect in between and give power and ground. Mirror works, and tested with the camera in the new 3rd brake light. Just need to run the video cable and swap the 3rd brake light out. Pretty simple and clean, everything hidden behind plastic shroud on window.

Thanks for the response! The cable was seated properly, but may have been faulty. Ended up buying an OEM camera cable from a GM parts supplier, switched it out today and it works great.

The pig tail has 3 wires a red, black and a green. The red wire is needs to be a ignition switched 12 volt power. The black is a ground and the green is a reverse kicker switch. This kicker circuit disengages the auto dim when the transmission is in reverse. The kicker is optional and I did not use this wire.  

 

Far as the mirror. If you have the auto crash avoidance you need the mirror below because the plug is horizontal to miss the sensors.  Hope this helps.

This is great info, thank you for posting this. I also have a 2022 refresh and discovered I do not have the plug in the headliner. Did you figure out which wire in the overhead console would tap into for the reverse function to work on the auto dim?

Looking to do this to my 2022 HD. Anyone do it to a 22+ HD yet? Not sure if it's going to follow suit with not having the wire with the "refresh" pattern. HD's interiors didn't change to all the big screen stuff until 2024.

 

EDIT: Mod done. HD T1s from 2020-2023 have the wire, although I didn't have the mirror post/wire cover that most have in here.

I know this is an older Post, but it also a GREAT POST with a lot of details.
Exactly what forums are for.

I wanna know about this Mirror.  That looks like it has HomeLink buttons on the bottom.
I'm looking for an AutoDim Mirror with the HomeLink buttons on it, that plugs directly into the existing GM OEM Cable that is already there (or in the headliner).

I am brand new to the forum, and I joined because of this post/thread.  I am aware it's an older post, but it also has some replies recently.

 

I am interested in making some very minor mods to my 2019 Chevy Silverado 1500 LT 4WD 5.3L.

 

Has anyone found an OEM or OEM Replacement (like Gentex) AutoDim Rearview mirror that has HomeLink built in and connects to the OEM 10 Pin connector in the headliner?

I would appreciate any part numbers or links to get that device.

My plan in st install the new AutoDim/HomeLink Mirror at the same time as installing a new DashCam.
I will include pictures and feedback.  (I also may wait a few weeks for the temperature to go up)

I ordered one and it should be here today or Monday. I'll post pictures of it. Part number 84738651

 

It's the GM official accessory unit that is garage opener/auto dim.

Is that the one with the removable Homelink piece? From what I saw of those they use a coin battery for the opener and aren't wired in with the dimming mirror.

Taking off that little console thing was easy. I got a little knife from my keychain and pried off the little tabs and they just popped off. Next, I used a T8 to unscrew the silver small screws then a T15 for the long black screws. I was popping off the main thing from the sides kinda prying it off again and it just popped off again -- too easy! I noticed two clips stayed on the frame and I think they're supposed to stay  there since the 'female' and looks like it grabs on to them?

 

The hardest part was screwing back those damn T15 screws. It took me like 30-45 minutes just trying to make them go in the center hole without being able to see. And theres a second hole on the inside corner where it was always getting stuck on. Patience and some beer made me not break the damn thing in anger. After that, the 2nd most hardest thing was peeling off the cable from the glue. I didn't want to use my knife in case I cut the cable so I was using a flat head to peel it off. This part took about 15 minutes. But all in all, an easy enough job! Hopefully the pictures I took can help someone recognize what those other two plugs are for!

 

PS: If you want a specific picture in higher resolution, let me know!

 

Edit: I’ve been thinking, I wonder if that big connector is for the homelink module. Would be cool to add the homelink module by plugging it in and just get the little plastic cover with the hole in it for the buttons to easily add homelink to the truck.

My tips....

  1. To take the large panel off of the mirror base, just grab it, squeeze and pull.  It pops right off.    You can remove the mirror screw and the mirror at that point and get it out of your way....and then detach the small panel.   NOTE that attaching the new mirror/panel is NOT the reverse order of removal.   More on that later.
  2. I have no idea how to separate the small and large panels without severely disfiguring the tabs....
  3. The screws that hold the onstar/light panel are T10 and T15. (not T9)  I didn't need any special hot glue or magnetic driver.  That part was easy in my opinion.
  4. The tough part was the connector glued down.  I cut around the glue as much as I could with a small screw driver.  I tried to use and exacto blade but it was too flimsy and one slip could cut wires.  I used the above member's method of cutting the glue back and grabbing the connector with a pair of pliers.  Well, I first cracked the connector slighty.  I tried again to remove more glue and tried again...after the 3rd try I was finally able to detach the connector.  Unfortunately one side of the connector remained attached and now the connector was broken.?  So BE CAREFUL grabbing the connector with a pair of pliers to break it free.
  5. There was one female terminal on the outside that was now not being held in well.  The white part fell off and I took that opportunity to clean the glue out of holes.  That part crumbled into 3 pieces easily so now there was nothing to hold the outer terminal or nothing to snap the connector in place.  Somehow, someway, I was able to insert the two white pieces and press the free terminal in enough and plug it all in!!  I honestly didn't think that last terminal would plug in, but it did....and I'm so lucky.
  6. NOTE:  The small and large panels around the NEW mirror need to assembled AFTER the mirror is plugged in and the mirror screw is torqued.  It can't be pre-assembled like when you removed it due to the mirror mount difference.   Mount the mirror and then reassemble the small and large panel around the mirror shaft and snap them together. 

 

Some fun pictures for you all.  May you not have as much glue as I did and then maybe this would be an easy 20 min job.

- Prying off the black cover - I ended up using a screwdriver with a towel to prevent damage. A nylon pry tool would have been the right thing for the job. Start on one side to pry as you pull, it will break loose and work around. Gently pulling as others described did not work for me. 
- Removing the mirror - it has two ball joints. As I was trying to rotate the black cover out of the way I hadn’t realized it has two ball joints, one at the mount and one at the mirror. I was able to flex both down and move the cover to access the covet to access the torx. 

- Separating these two pieces after removal of the mirror - I should have taken a pic, but I was able to use a small screwdriver blade and push the locking part of the plastic tab back out of the way of the catch. I pulled these apart no problem after that, no damage. 

- Prying the "L" pieces off the onstar / light unit. Start at the part near the lights and gently work around. No problems here. 

- Now for the glued connector. I used a small flat blade screwdriver and poked around the exposed edges of the connector and gently pried. This took a lot of finesse and patience. I don't think you could have directed heat on the glue enough to do anything with a hairdryer, but saving this for when its sat in the sun during the summer might have helped. Be patient, and keep working the edge. One caution is towards the end, I didn't realize there were holes in the plastic headliner backer, one of which was under the connector where it was glued. I almost poked the screwdriver through the headliner cloth on accident. In the end, the connector only had a small dab of glue to peel off, and clicked in to the new mirror just fine. Dang that is some tacky stuff. 

- Re - assembly - Connect mirror, mount it and set screw, large plastic cover, small cover, then the torn screws in the on star unit. Some people explained difficultly here with the larger recessed screws. Magnetize your driver, and keeping poking at it until you line up. Had both done quickly. 

Thanks to all on the forum, this is pretty easy, but only because of the steps others have posted. I hope this additional info is helpful. 
Glad my 2019 now has auto dim like my 2007 did, although my 2007 had the temp in the mirror which was an added continence.

I know this thread is old but plenty of people (like me) still doing this and searching for this stuff. Everything quoted  above will get you through this mod easily. Thanks to all the contributors in the thread (and those I didn't quote too). The biggest tip I can verify is bonzmans. My wire was glued pretty good like many in here but I sprayed some rubbing alcohol on it (you can dab with cotton ball if no sprayer) and used the hair dryer front and back and it helped immensely in pushing on the connector with a very small flat blade and working it free. Without that method there is no doubt in my mind the connector would have been totally destroyed trying to free it from it's glue prison. I was able to get it out perfectly clean like the last quoted picture.

 

I used the GM accessory auto-dim/garage door frameless combo shown a post up. Also, I did this on my 2022 2500 HD so those reading with an HD truck, your 2020-2023 will be eligible for this.

Yes. It's actually a Chamberlin unit. That fat piece around the center button swivels down and the unit can slide out for battery service or I suppose to remove for long periods outside on vacation where you don't want people breaking into the truck and then opening the garage.

 

Was very easy to program through my MyQ app since I have a Chamberlin wifi opener but would be easy to program the traditional way as well (learn button/dip switches).

Thanks to @Semedar for his post in August of 2019 for HOW to FREE the power connector to make most of this possible.

I found maybe the most effective way for me to RELEASE the connector was using rubbing alcohol on a brush (Like @bonzman17 said)

I came here to install a Dash cam that uses the AutoDim power connector for power.  Once I found the power connected and freed it, that was simple.

 

NOW I want to ADD the AutoDim rearview, and remove my visor mounted Garage Door clicker and IDEALLY have those functions moved into a HOMELINK module mounted in my Overhead Console.
It seems that there are only 2 (that I have been able to find) options for Overhead Consoles in the 2019 + trucks, WITHOUT HOMELINK, or WITH HOMELINK and with Sun/Moon Roof controls.

Has anyone added HOMELINK to their 2019+ Truck?
How did you do it?
Where you able to find an OEM Overhead Console with the HOMELINK Module and Buttons?

I added a homelink console to mine. It just plugs in place of the stock one. Mine has the rear slider controls which my truck doesn't have. I actually bought two consoles. I didn't realize the console wasn't black when I bought the first one. I installed it and later found the light gray one and bought that and replaced it.

I have my mirror, and plan to wire this up in the next few days.
I have the Gentex-453, Autodim, Homelink, Compass/Temp and will be adding a new Ambient temp sensor since I dont wan to mess with the stock sensor that I have; which is wired and works and displays on my INFOTAINMENT.

I'll do a full write up, but will have AutoDim, Homelink, Compass and Temp along with an OEM Style Mirror Shroud integrated DashCam.


What I would really LOVE to find is BATTERY POWER (B+) in the overhead console of the 2019 Silverado LT, to wire the parking monitor on my DashCam.

Does anyone know where I could find that Battery power connection.

    • I tried before I updated the scan tool just incase an update messed it up, but it never worked so I updated the scan tool and it still didn't work.   Only difference is I click on Sierra not Chevrolet cause I have a Sierra.   If I click on 2026-2024 I didn't have any option to change placard, when I click on 2023 it does give me the option but when I try to do it,.it says vehicle not supported!   I have my region or market or whatever it is set to America I think, is that what yours is set to?
    • Its just that it worked on 2024 trucks on this forum and my 2025 model truck, unless GM did something since that point to screw up access or Autel has a bad update. I haven't had need to use my tool since last year when I did the changes to the placard pressure settings and since then I updated the software on my Autel but have not plugged into the OBD so hard to say if I would get a surprise as well.    All I know last year when I bought the Autel I was warned to be sure to update it before I tried using the unit as they said who knows how long ago unit itself was actually manufactured as the software could be way out of date. 
    • And so you had gone through the process of registering and updating the tool and so on ?. All I can say is that on the front page as the tool fires up you go to advanced mode, then vehicle model comes up and you choose Silverado ( not the DRW or EV  since your a single rear wheel ) , then I think its choice 2 which is 07/2021 - 12/2026 ( 433mhz 13542523 ) as that is the series of tpms sensors and then go down to choice 5 which is tire type/pressure selection. Hit yes and it says to connect to OBD port and turn ignition on.    Having said this, I updated the software in my tool lately and these year range choices look different from the past due to them doing some updates it would appear and I have not connected up to the OBD port since last year so hopefully I am not in for a surprise with them screwing up the software and that it won't work on my truck anymore either.    So my question is, when you plugged into the OBD and started your truck it had that message on the Autel screen "vehicle not supported" ?. That does seem odd as tire shops would be pissed right off if hey can't use their tool on the model year after mine that in theory is supposed to be much the same truck ... unless GM did some change in the computer system to block certain things from access. 
    • Understanding and using modern scan tools is its own body of knowledge. I had little hope that would work...programming access to the BCM is probably required and that is not easy for us consumers. Expensive scan tool, GM programming subscription, online authentication, etc.   It also may be a matter of finding the right dealer to program it for you. Flashing a modern BCM might be a little too advanced for most tire shops.
    • Update for anyone following:    Installed everything as shown in diagram. Opted for 8 AWG from Battery Positive to a 50A resettable inline breaker. 8 AWG is tied into to 2x 12 AWG wires feeding a 6 way fuse bus in parallel (manufacturer’s design of what I purchased).    4 of the 6 fuses available for circuits are tied to terminal 30 of each relay. I tied a jumper from one of my spare circuits off the bus to terminal 86 of each relay. The trigger, terminal 85, was pulled from my interior by way of T-Taps from the X61A-X5 pins 10, 11, 17 and 23. This was the hardest part of the job. Even with the X61A unbolted and the X5 removed - there was VERY little wiggle room.  I added back up lights that I want to come on with my cargo lamp - but when I would check continuity between S48A-X1 pin 18 to its respective landing point on the X61A-X5 it triggers the factory relay… Instead I opted for a add-a-fuse on the passenger interior fuse panel (fuse location 10 - cargo lamp) and ran it through the boot on the driver side to my load. Did this to avoid introducing any electrical gremlins.   Note: Please check for continuity between the S48A-X1 and the X61A-X5. In my case wire colours were not the same as other’s who have posted. To do a continuity check you need a Multimeter. Completely disassemble the S48A-X1 and remove the brown face plate off the X61A-X5 by way of a flat head screwdriver - this was the only way I could get any results.   The outputs, terminal 87 of the relays, were fed into a junction box and landed at Individual studs and were labelled Aux 1-4.    At this point, all you need to do is run wire to your loads and bring them to ground. I created a negative bus in the engine bay, all my negatives land here.    For anyone having issues with all of your new aux switch lights coming on with the press of one - I noticed this only to be an issue when the battery wasn’t hooked up to my relays? No idea why, but it was quickly corrected by having my system buttoned up and functional.
