I know 3 is a small sample size but what, if any, differences are there in configuration of the three ? All Z71 ? Or all CC ? All 4x4 ?

All crew cabs. The 14 is a 2wd chevy LT. The 2 15's are both GMC crewcab 4x4 SLT. mine is a z71 my buddys is a max tow with the 9.76 rear end.

Another update: I got my truck back this past Thursday. When the driver dropped it off he told me he had it up to 85mph and it was smooth.

I THINK ITS FIXED!!! I waited until today to post as I wanted to drive it several times. The dealer replaced my ring and pinion {rear end} and then put on new tires and wheels. I drove it several times on the interstate, max speed of 83mph and it was smooth. My 14 year old said "wow this is what is should feel like. Very excited right now and hope it doesn't return. Only issue now is they put black wall tires on and I like white letter. They are going to correct it this week.

I don't want to publish the name on my dealer on here but if anyone else's dealer is unable to fix their truck I will be glad to give you the name of my dealer and the service managers name so your dealer can, if they wish too, contact them. Want to help others hopefully get their trucks fixed. If I can be of any assistance please let me know.

 

A full rear axle replacement [brake rotor to brake rotor] eliminated the vibrations in my Yukon as well. Mine were not nearly as bad as some of the videos I have seen in this thread.

 

My dealership also replaced several tires and getting them to RF balance under 15lbs eliminated the 'buffeting' that many of us have reported in the Yukon/Tahoe/Suburban thread.

 

The last noise was the "booming" that could be heard when driving over bumps and snow/gravel covered roads. This was resolved by welding 6 dampers to the exhaust.

 

Nice to see another one get fixed.

Glad to hear yours is fixed as well. Mine was fixed with the ring and pinion and new tires all the way around at 25000 miles. I just turned over 40,500 yesterday.

I test drove a 2016 today and it had a noticeable vibration at any speed above 40mph. The odometer had 4 miles on it and it's build date was in February, so I'm hoping it's just from flat spots or out of balance tires from sitting so long. I asked if they could rebalance them or swap the tires with another truck on the lot, and I will re-test drive. We'll see what they do. The 8-speed shifted fine though from any speed or gear.

It's not the tires. this has been mentioned many times on this forum. Try another truck instead?

In my case it was the tires, unless other parts start losing their tolerances and the truck starts to vibrate again

You are one of the lucky ones then. In my case, and many other postings on here many also concluded it was not the tires. In my case, they replaced all four tires. It still vibrated. Then they Road forced and had to replace one of the new ones they just installed. Yes, when they replaced and RFB's the tires, the vibration was better, but it time, the vibration came back. I still have a vibrator. Been a GM guy all me life, but I think I may need to bend over and get a Ford. I cringe when I say this!

GM seems to be dragging their feet with getting me the updated trade assist letter.... last week i git an email saying they would get in out in the next couple days. its now over a week later and still no letter. they have been using fedex 2 day, so I don't know whats going on.... getting really annoyed and thinking they may be playing games until I can no longer file lemon law

The Chevy dealers are not charging for all the time and work spent in the shop, correct? What if you purchase the truck used and the issue shows up? Is it still under warranty to where they will still try all the above mentioned troubleshooting?

I would say run and try another brand instead. To me, this game of finding a truck that does not vibrate and hoping that the vibration does not start around 2500 miles, would be acceptable if they were giving them away free.

I had question for you guys. I was watching YouTube on the vibration issue and I'm sure you know there are tons of videos. I came across this one. Seems like just another of many "who thought this design was good" engineering. I drive usually 20 min a day on the highway and don't seem to have a severe vibration like some. I drove from Mass to Fl and back (3k miles) and was fully aware it vibs. I do have it though at the same speeds as everyone else and a resonance, low hum I guess, associated with it. My friend has a bone stock Silverado that he said shook severely and had the tires rfb and that fixed it. I've already tried the clamps on the rear springs which may be hookus pookus but seems to have slightly helped but gonna try my hand at the rfb.

My question..has anyone seen this or tried this and able comment on it...video below

Something all should look at is the transfer case. On mine sitting and idling it has quite a bit of shake. With the transfer case hanging off the transmission with no brackets attaching it, could this be our vibration issue? The case has spots for mounting brackets but nothing's attached. Just an observation I've seen on my truck. I have the E brake cables rubbing on the body mounts and they are cut pretty good with 8000 miles on truck. My rear end is noises as well. I just completed a tire rotation and my truck is actually 10x worse than it was before.

Well add me to the list I guess. Just bought a 16 crewcab Z71 LT on Friday and had vibes on the highway on the drive home. Brought it back next day, they did RFB and tire rotation. Didn't help much.

 

So picked it up today, after 3 hours in the shop. Was told it drives 100 times better now. I asked what the problem was, turns out that 3 of the tires were about 5 psi too high. That's actually what they told me. That the over inflation "made me feel every bump in the road" and that the Z71 package is stiffer. I guess the Z71 also has the drink mixing feature as well.

 

At any rate I am going to get documentation of the first two visits and take the tech out for a ride tomorrow. Wish me luck.

    • Thanks - I wasn't quite caffeinated this morning. 2:1 makes sense, turning the crankshaft 360 degrees will turn the cam 180 degrees, and had I done that, the cam's dot would be at 6 and the crank's at 12 again.   I went ahead and took the sprocket off anyway, aligned everything dot-to-dot including the balance shaft just for s&g. I'm glad I did because I discovered no Loctite on the timing sprocket bolts. Maybe it's not required, but at only 20 ft-lb torque spec, those bolts aren't in there very tight. Cleaned and reassembled with some thread locker and torqued.   A general observation: Less is more with RTV. If a little doesn't stop a leak, a LOT probably won't, either. RTV is thinly veiled revenge, in a tube...      
    • The timing marks are ok, that is #1, you can turn it over until they line up and it won't change anything, the crankshaft turns twice for every camshaft revolution, I have always set up SB Chevs as your pic shows using a straight edge
    • Someone's been here before.... There is a receipt for a 3-piece timing set, purchased earlier this year.   Is this picture something, or, nothing?   I have the timing cover off and my crank is perfectly TDC and the keyed gear's locating mark is dead on 12 o'clock.   The cam gear locating mark is also at 12 o'clock. Now, I'm not an expert, but all the install guides say the two locating marks should meet and be perfectly aligned when installing a timing set. The mark on the crank should be dead on 12:00 and the cam gear's mark should be dead on 6:00, and both marks should be perfectly vertically aligned.   I believe the timing gear is keyed or has a dowel that ensures it can only be installed on the cam in one position, so I have to believe the cam is out of phase somehow. At the very least, with a triangular bolt pattern, it can only be installed in one of 3 different positions.   Before I pulled the front cover, the truck was running alright, no service engine soon lights except an occasional P0172 / rich condition. Timing -16 timing at idle (should be +16), and total -35% fuel trim, two conditions I haven't been able to figure out.   In related news, my injector tested pretty well, wasn't leaking, but I had it rebuilt anyway, and it's on it's way back to me.         Along with this discovery, the good and bad:   Good: The oil pan seal appears undamaged.   Bad: -The timing cover has been reused, and the positioning dowels have been broken. That could explain some of the leaking. -Some kind of white paste or grease was used to try to seal the oil pan seal and timing cover (since wiped off..). -Then, someone globbed silicone all over the front of the cover and also buried the ckp sensor in it. But, they didn't put any inside the cover or use RTV to try to seal the oil pan seal with the timing cover (good).
    • The guy that owns K&P filters last I checked in with him has over 300,000 miles on his Dodge base Hemi using his own 35 micron absolute stainless mesh filter from its first oil change.    The GM study I've posted a dozen times shows the relationship in engine life based in multiples of base units, not miles or years. That is the base unit is the number of miles the motor ran using the reference filter efficiency.    The above two paragraphs dismantle anecdotal arguments IF one changes oil often enough to prevent particle formation and the motor is in otherwise good shape. That is not full of silica (no air filter) or suffering a metallurgical issue that is not part of the lubrication discussion. Poor heat treat in example.   Data from UOA's I've reviewed from more than a few engines can show remarkably broad variations in oil cleanliness using the exact same filter over the course of an engines life.     Lastly there is the common sense of it. Wear debris WILL circulate the engine BEFORE it ever sees a filter in route to that filter and WILL harm the pump which NEVER sees filtered oil.    Alpha question then becomes, given the facts, how long do you believe is a reasonable service life from a vehicle you are certain you will not pass down? That is the junk yard will be it's resting place when you're done with it? (the moral issue most don't care about).    Omega question is then how diligent are you prepared to be in general mechanical, air & oil maintenance? Preventing particulates and keeping them sufficiently dilute; preventing the precursors from generation, amalgamation and precipitation.    If I get a good look at the engine bay of a vehicle I have a fair idea of the owners commitment to the inside of the power train. That 30 micron WIX is still more efficient than a sieve.                 
    • It also depends on what criteria someone is using for “best” when talking filters.  Are we going off best efficiency?   Best quality/QC?  Etc. because the two may not mutually exclusive.
