Your computer isn't telling your engine what to do with the extra air ;)

Sent from my fone.

I guess it's time to data log...

I'm going to start tuning this weekend hopefully If I have time, but before I void my warranty I'm curious if any of you have ran into any gotcha's or issues with the powertrain since putting a tune on?

I haven't read of any failures on the 5.3 at all so I'm assuming as long as the tune is safe there shouldn't be any issues.

They are not as rich, no.

I didn't add any fuel to overcome this, I simply adjusted values that lock out the WOT tables till the engine reaches 5k RPM and moved it down to down to 2K, then changed the multipliers in the WOT table to give me a 12.8-13.0 AFR when mashing the skinny pedal.

Is there a particular reason why you didn't move the lock out down to 1k and decided to go 2k?

No, either will work, if you go into WOT/PE your convertor will flash past 2k rpms anyway.

FYI -Jon A. Has a very good write up on using a 180 thermostat for towing. That man is very knowledgeable and if you haven't done so, I would consider it for your towing application as well.

So my buddy and I started to tune this week, I've decided to leave the tranny alone for now.

We put the lockout to 1k and adjusted the command afr, and made a bunch of other changes like you had in your tune. However I'm still getting a lazy throttle when cruising for anything under half throttle it feels like. Really it's anything under 3k it still doesn't feel like it has much power but once it does down shift there is a big improvement. Any advise here?

My only thought is that I have 33x12.50r18 MT tires so that's robbing some of my low end power.

From a stop and going half throttle it feels great but still wants to upshift as soon as it can.

Regarding the 180 thermostat, yea, I commented on that thread. The thermostat is no longer available for purchase, after talking to Lingenfelter they don't know when it will be available again.

We calibrated the MAF to pretty much perfect, during the initial data log run it was all by about 9.6% in all tables due to the intake. After calibration we are off in only some tables by less than 1%.

Question regarding KR, I get 0 KR with the A/C off however I get about 4-6 with the A/C on... I didn't touch the timing, left stock... Is this something you see as well?

I'm 40' in the air on an oil rig right now trying to troubleshoot some automation issues, so bear with me, I'm thinking you were using HPtuners(I use both) so try this.

Mimick all my Engine/Torque Management settings in the reference tune I sent you, then adjust your Driver Demand "A" settings just like in that same tune.

Report back and let me know how it works.

save me a log file showing this, and send me a copy of tune. I will look it over tonight.

No worries at all, I appreciate the help.

I did mimic the tables and adjusted the Driver Demand "A" settings as well but I'll take another look.

We are using HPT, but we used my buddies computer who has the software so it will take me some time to get it from him since he's out of town right now.

I'll get the log file as soon as I can, but does this sound right at all? Also, I'm in AZ so we were tuning when it was 105+ degrees out as well.

The more you drive it the better it gets and the more you will like it. I also got an Air Rait MIT intake tube and filter and if definitely helped out low-mid range torque. So if you don't have an aftermarket intake I suggest you get one.

MIT was installed couple days after getting the truck :)

Stock air box with KN

Was in when I was data logging for Black Bear...

MIT is a quality piece

I was contemplating a whipple super charger because the truck felt under powered / lagged but the tune makes the truck feel great now.

Not that I won't get a whipple in the future :)

Can someone guys post up how many miles they have on their tuned trucks and what engine? Looking to see how these engines are handling the tunes

I don't have a 2014+, but I got my 2007.5 tuned by Justin in late 2008. I had almost 20,000 miles then. I have since added headers and a TVS1900 also from Black bear. I now have over 90,000 miles. Original transmission and no engine problems yet.

I've had my 5.3 tuned via Black Bear sine 19k miles. I'm at 35k right now.

I have a 2014 Silverado with the 5.3. diablo tuned it with less than 1,000 miles and only a few weeks old. Its now about 9 months old and I have over 11,000 miles on it. Other than for the week of my free oil change I've had some variation of a tune in it. From AFM on and off, TM on and off, 87 & 91 octane & E85 tunes. Biggest surprises to me is the trans shifting is so much better tuned and AFM off causes no decrease in mpg. No engine or trans issues at all. Runs great.

I had over 30000 miles on my 09 6.0l with a Diablew tune with no issues at all. I just got one for my current truck.
