issue RECALL - Fire Risk

Had the update done on Saturday. Took a 107 mile trip today filled with backroads and highway majority was flat. Sadly, I am one of the many who has fallen victim to the truck no longer going into V4 mode. This is a routine trip for me and I've done it many times. In my 2014 I have made this trip 4 times. Each time, the MPG on the truck reads anywhere between 19 to 19.8 when I reached the finish line. I always reset my B trip monitor. Today, the MPG was 16.8. Something isn't right and this update for the recall has clearly not only hindered my trucks switching from V4 to V8, but many others as well as evidenced by this thread.

Had the recall done this past Thursday, drove it quite a bit today. Still going into V4 quit a bit. Didn't really notice any difference than before update.

Same here, but I had mine done last Monday.

Seems after driving a while it has re-learned its behavior and mileage has come back to norm, average 17-18 have about 1500 miles after the recall reprogram. Maybe takes a bit to relearn?

HOWEVER his forum had a link to the Detroit News Front page of Jan 10 that goes into more detail than the GM bulletin. Many may find it interesting. Including the reference to the issue of the vehicles being designed to idle on 2 cylinders! Yes I had to read that numerous times. Is this possibly another attempt to regulate the owner, pretty hard to warm up your truck in the cold if only 2 cylinders are running.

You mean they cannot figure out how to make it idle on one cylinder?

This whole thing is preposterous. Mandating enthanol blended basoline (E10) which lowers the fuel economy by at least 5% (at least 20% for E85), building 6,000 lb curb weight vehicles with aerodynamics of a box, installing huge heavy wheels that consume more fuel just to get them rolling, and then trying to find ways to "improve fuel economy" by devising these gimmicks?

My build date is 12-11-2013 CC SLT Z71 4x4 5.3 3.42 axle I picked my truck up at the dealership 1-17-14 it had only ten miles on it and the fire recall was completed before I picked it up so I cannot say if it runs better or worse. I have noticed that it has some hesitation if you get on it at about 45 to 50 and need to go around somebody. Not what I expected for a supposedly 355 hp engine. My 2009 5.3 315hp ran like a scalded dog without any hesitation felt like it had more power than this 2014. If you drive like granny it looks like the 2014 will get decent fuel mileage. I had my reflash done on Friday. Now my truck runs in v4 more than it ever did before. Good or bad, don't know. Time will tell. Seems to run a lot higher instant fuel economy.

I still say they need to do away with the dang v4-v8 dash light and just let the system work. Why buy a V8 engine if you are so worried about gas mileage!

I guess ignorance is bliss. My 1WT instrument cluster has no indication of when I am in either V4 or V8 mode.

Had mine done recently and wanted to test out the fuel economy before i posted. I am pretty happy with how its running now. Like others have posted, it runs in V4 much more now than it did before. I still hover around 15.4 MPG on the 400 Mile setting.. not sure about the 10 and 25 sections as I don't think that gives me a real picture of my fuel efficiency... They also wanted to have me back in to take a look at my rear window and the sliding glass. I asked why and I was told its just a precaution that all of the trucks are going through... Does anyone know if they are replacing the rear sliding window? My dog loves it.

Yes. Most of the old regulators appear to be crap. It's only a matter of time before it fails if yours is part of the recall. Have them replace it for free now while it's not broken. They appear to mostly fail in the open position and cannot be manually closed.

DNT: i have the same truck, but my DIC does not display like the pictures you are showing. I was looking at it yesterday and I believe I went through all of the screens but couldn't find it...I just have the mpg displayed and not the slider displayed like your DIC. Any ideas?

sduff Yes I can try, it is a bit hard to find. First on the right hand side of your steering wheel punch the left < arrow to go to selection screen scroll down to settings and press the center check mark to select it then push the right > arrow and scroll through and make SURE that the fuel economy box is selected. There is a lot of stuff here that can be turned on or off of your display by scrolling to it and hitting the center to check button to turn it either on or off. Now go back by pressing the left < arrow and go to info and scroll through the options to your fuel economy and then you press the right > arrow to select which one you want displayed the 25 or 50 or 400 I hope that makes sense I am going by memory so just push some buttons if I missed one step and you will find it in a minute or two. Let me know how it goes. What color did you get? I was in PA yesterday and stopped by Punxsutawney Phils burrow to get a pic LOL little rascal almost caused me to miss my flight in Pittsburg to come back home.

i hope so my mileage was much better before the fix..
