Tight fit in the garage

We are moving into a new house here in a few weeks and I couldn't be more excited. There is one small problem though, the truck will be a tight fit in the garage. I have searched through the forum for various options and the only topics I found were pretty dated. I'm pretty sure the truck will fit but I may only have 1/2" to spare. Is anyone out there using a roll pan bumper for their 2016? I don't like what I've seen out there (some urethane stuff from "Street Scene" or something like that) so I'm curious what you're all using (if anything at all). I don't need a roll pan bumper at all, I just know that will give me a few inches. Is there another option out there I'm missing like a regular metal bumper that's just an inch shorter?

Modifying the garage in any way is not an option. The wife wouldn't approve that one. :) Also, parking outside isn't an option..at least in the long term. Summers in Phoenix are pretty brutal.

Thank you in advance for any bumper advice! Also, if there is another recent thread, please let me know. I'm more than happy to delete this post and focus on those.

Mike

I was in the same predicament and I ended up cutting the bottom garage door truss on my half of the garage to allow the door to clean my bumper when it raised and lowered. Left the other half and no flex issues with a double wide door.

I also cut some strips of fun noodles (pool noodles whatever you call them) and mounted them to the wall. I basically rest my truck up against them in order to fit in my garage.

Roll pans are so 90's in my opinion.

I now have kids and no room to park in the garage...it was -12 F this morning...awesome.

dang, are you certain you can't fit it in the garage as-is?

And if it really is within 1" like you say: before changing the bumper, next thing i would do is try to remove the sheathing (plywood or drywall) on the back wall where your bumper hits. Is it an attached garage/ shared wall with the house? maybe that wouldn't be allowed if its a firewall.

I'd tell your wife its cheaper and easier to modify the garage, than the truck.

I do not recommend cutting the support bar on the door. yes, it gives you more clearance, but it can also allow the door to bend under its own weight. I would not want that hanging over my new truck every time the door opens.

either way I would try anything else before taking off the bumper.

I managed to get mine in by tearing down my workbench and kinda of like Waterfowler I pretty much know when to stop when I touch the back wall. Gotta a whole 2 inches to spare. Good

luck.

wow garages must be shrinking. Mine fits in the garage with and inch to spare and that includes my hitch ball on the truck.

My crew cab standard bed truck won't fit. I am defiantly considering chopping some off the wall or doing something to the door. Problem is I need about a foot and a half to get in.

It is a 2 car garage.

Mine fits in my garage, albeit barely. I hung a string with a tennis ball that hangs down and when I touch it with my hitch (using my back up camera) I know I have enough clearance to close the door without any surprises. So far it works great.

Sounds like the perfect storm to get that detached "mancave" garage happening. Just convince the little woman that the exterior will match the crib. BAM done

Ive got a 17 DC standard bed. Ive got maybe 3/4 to and inch between my rear bumper and the garage door with the front bumper against the front wall. Im using a piece of carpet on the wall where the bumper hits. No scratches so far. Ive got a particular spot of light that comes from the drivers headlight onto the wall and I use that to judge exactly when the bumper touches. Never fails. Just gotta be easy with it when parking.

My 07 Tundra was exactly the same way.

    • Brought my 2015 Colorado into the dealership to check my touch screen issues, had that ghost touch thing happening. They said I needed a new touch screen and they could either order me one for $500. The lady at the service deck was nice enough to tell me I could order a touch screen online for less, she did stipulate that the touch screen had to be factory OEM, you can't pair an aftermarket screen to my radio seeing it was 2015, it had to be a GM factory OEM only. I found a few on Amazon and Ebay by the numbers on the back of the old screen, DJ080PA-01A GM# 22740886, Some said "OEM" in the description and others just said "Replacement". Would a replacement be the same as a OEM as long as it had the same numbers on the back of the screen? In some of the descriptions they also show different brand names but same numbers, is that an issue?
    • I have both but typically use the 4 legged walker (wheels on front, ski's on back).   The four wheeler is starting to be used on "longer" outdoor walks.  The 4 legged walker is particularly helpful in practicing good walking posture.  Both of my knees are at different stages of recovery and I'm trying to not develop poor habits.  I can actually manage with a cane but it's very difficult not to favor one leg over the other.  My PT recommends I continue with my 4 legged walker for a while.  Yesterday was four weeks since my last knee replacement and I'm excited about my progress to date.  It has been a hell of a rough journey so far but it is exciting to witness  systematic and continuous improvement.  I went for years watching the decline of my "mobility".  It seems that everyday now I am alerting my wife to something I can do now that I couldn't a day or two ago!  I encourage anyone facing the prospect of knee replacement to share any concerns with others who have had the surgery.  It isn't an instant fix but rather is a considerable amount of short term pain for long term gain.  Recovery time and pain levels vary for individuals post surgery but the end results are typically very positive and I've never encountered anyone regretting having had the surgery.
    • The lifter issue can be dealt with by shorter oil changes and quality oil IMO.
    • Got heavy rain, hail and light rain yesterday.
    • I'm putting in an A-pillar pod/gauges, and I'm asking if anybody can identify a (preferably) fuse for a switched power and illumination circuit on the driver's side interior fuse panel. Offhand, everything I checked with a test light was constant-hot, and I'd much rather uses a piggyback fuse. I can certainly find a wire, but I'd rather not half-tap.   Thanks in advance for any help.
