Both of my trucks were made in Indiana. Seeing all of you whiners and trolls with all of your issues is also hilarous.

You do realize this is a forum for "Shake or Vibration Issues" right?

No, Einstein. :uhoh:

Ah ok. Usually people don't spend time going into forums that were created to help people solve problems/issues peer to peer and attack them for actually having issues with their vehicles. Maybe I misunderstood what this platform is for?

I address those current non-owners that only like to come back here to stir the pot. They know who they are. Stay in your RAM,  Tundra, or F150 forums. Some people only like to complain. I am defending the truck as others like to $hit on them and say they are all crap because they had a bad one. I have had only good experiences, and for that, I am a clueless fanboy, according to those jerks.

Went to a different dealer than I had before. Found out a lot of good info on my truck that the other dealer never told me. They're keeping my truck and performing all maintenance suggested in service bulletins by GM. There's a lot of them. Service Manager told me not to expect the vibrations to go away 100% in the single cab. They have 3 on the lot they can't sale for the same reason. They assured me that after going through the truck there should be a significant difference in how bad the vibration is. It's definitely a combination of multiple issues dealing with the transmission, exhaust, and suspension.

The dealer I bought the truck from never recorded in the system that I had complained of vibration and shifting issues. Luckily the paperwork they gave me has it listed. In case I have to file a claim against GM at some point. What's the point of a dealership lying about an issue? Will GM scold them for correctly reporting an issue? Or maybe it's just an incompetent service center?

We come back in hopes of customers finding a solution...I don't take joy, as you seem to, in other owners bad experiences. I keep thinking GM will find a solution to this pretty large problem. Sadly they haven't and won't at this point with the redesign coming.

Why do you feel the need to defend an inanimate object? I think we have come full circle to your insecurities and your little man complex...which leads to your name calling at a grade school level.

I don't need to ignore you. I am capable of having a conversation with someone with different views...I don't need a safe place. :)

The only person stirring the pot is you my friend. I am here because I had this issues and lived it on $55K truck that should have been "perfect".

I can only speak to my experience, but some of the dealers won't fully document this issue because 1.They know it's a problem with no fix. 2 If they admit there is a problem the dealer/GM is closer to being on the hook to fix said issue that they have no fix for.

I commend you guys who take it upon yourselves to find a resolution to this and start wrenching on your truck and replacing parts.

Service guy told me that some of the fixes were found by people working on their own trucks and telling GM about it. Guess they're just giving out engineering degrees to anyone these days. Haha.

That would not surprise me unfortunately. Auto manufacturers just don't care anymore, it seems, about their customers. ...no matter what the brand.

Enough of the bantering back and forth.  If your truck is perfect great no need to stir the pot and provide no input to the relevant topic.  There are people having issues.  There is also no need to go back and forth with people providing no input.  As they say "nothing to see here move along"

Consider yourselves warned!  Keep it up and you (anyone attacking another person) will receive a vacation from the site.

I don't have the shake in my 2017 GMC Sierra 1500 extended cab, but I'm only at 3500km. Its brand new. I came to the forum for another issue, and it sucks to find a 700+ page thread about a problem GM can't seem to get their head around. I'm really worried about all of the people who say their problem started at 65k or so.

I'm not a mechanic, but I work in a field that require a lot of troubleshooting, and one thing I've learned is that the most difficult problems to solve are the ones that have multiple causes. It really screws with classic trail and error stratagem.

Reading this thread, I feel its a problem that is inherent to design. I don't think GM can't figure it out; I think GM HAS figured it out and they know it is a major design factor that cannot be easily changed. I suspect, like others have said, it is related to resonance frequency being close to standard road vibrations. Normally it would be fine, but if anything is off at all (tires, wheels, shaft, steering column, etc) then the resulting vibrations will be amplified by the frame. It is possible that the components of this vehicle may not even be up to the specification that GM intended. Google Kobe Steel.

GM is hot off the heels of a major defect scandal with their ignitions. They can't afford another one. They are terrified of bad optics, which is why Barra has been on the interview trail spewing out PR marketing speak about integrity and accountability. Its crap, but the fact that she has to that when Ford and Dodge are comparatively quiet is telling.

My choice was between the GM 1500 and the F150. I ruled out Dodge ages ago. I will never own a Chrysler product due to reputedly poor QA (its a defect lottery). It was a close call, but the GM won out with better looks, better price, smoother ride (on the test drive) and infotainment system. I was under the notion that the F150 was the higher risk because of all of the new technology they are putting into it (EcoBoost, aluminum, etc). GM was closer to a proven design, or so I thought.

If I had found this thread earlier, then I would have likely bought the Ford.

By any chance is there a way you can post what it is they looked at and did to your truck after you get it back? I'm curious to see considering that you found a dealership who actually admits knowledge to the issues.

    • I did the new thermostat after doing a 'flip' for a year. Runs as cool one way as the other in the summer but in the winter there is a bit of a floor. Yellow with the new 70 C thermostat. My data over the life of the unit to date. Still need more cooler. Anyway that floor helped both winter fuel economy and shift quality in the winter. I found it a good balance.
    • Evan Williams Bottled in Bond   So pouring the last of a bottle of Evan Williams Black label last night I set off the the state store for a refill only to be denied the by an empty shelf. Rats.    What the did have was a bottle of Evan Williams Bottled in Bond. 100 proof. Hum, a few bucks more but a known distiller. Lets have a swing at it. ( I have before )    Cracked it open and pour a serving over ice. Hum.... more heat, yes. More alcohol naturally. But the barreling not the proof brings the taste and this one came up short.    Oh is was familiar but the heat ran the barrel over like a Peterbilt runs over a squirrel. Could use a heavier toasting of the oak me thinks or perhaps a longer barreling. Who knows. But what I can say is ice or a water back isn't the answer. What kills one kills them both. Sad. It is a pleasant drink....if you have little to compare it to.
    • I've had exactly one set of Bridgestone. Lasted five year and 125,000 miles and had I known better 15oK would have been a cake walk. I would have bought a like set had they not tripled in price since the first set. I removed them at said mileage with 5/32" remaining in dead even wear all four. They were fuel efficient, quite, comfortable and predictable.    Early on I got a very good alignment checked at least once a year, sometimes twice; kept the tires properly inflated, balanced and rotated. And I've found that many a tire issue can be avoided with great maintenance practices. Lot's of tire dealers will do rotation and balance (simple) for free for as long as you own the tire they sold you so no excuse not to.    Bead prep, alloy integrity and stem health have a huge impact on inflation stability. There are more mountings done poorly that perfectly. Finding a good tire guy is gold and as important as finding a tire you like.    That 3X price increase now two sets of "other tires' later is starting look like a bargain.      Bad maintenance kills more tires than bad tires.
    • Atlas, you kill me As aggravating as a project like this can be you have been unable to hide your fascination with learning and using that angst against this beast like a Ninjitsu Master. It amuses you, admit it now.      BTW, love your writing style. 😉
    • I gotta say, I'm enjoying your narration. The troubles you've been having are amusing as you describe them. It's good to see that you're finally getting some satisfaction out the old beast though.
