driving in M4 on the trans select will give the best shifts ,crisp and clean, M5 softens things up  a bit..

Do I find the M4 selection by touching on the - or the + on the lever for the pushing on the towing selector?? Sorry for my stupidity!

yeah shift from D all the way to M selection, kinda like shifting manually into low gear in the old days.  -/+ will set the last gear the trans can shift into.  i like M4 for stop and go city, and M5 for city driving but more open streets with less stop lights and traffic, then use D for on the highway to sip gas on 4 cylinders.

I'll give it a try. Still wondering if I just put it in the position for trailer hauling would that take it out of the 4 cylinder mode.

no, but it will improve the v4 performance if you use tow haul from my testing, it helps hold the v4 longer instead of falling back into v8 . i have been able to drive up a decent grade in tow haul and hold v4, but i do have 3.74 gears, yet most trucks come with 3.42 or something like that.. 

if the truck is new the first thing i would recommend is the thermostat delete, , lots of parts in the trans are plastic and rubber, doing this will keep it shifting like new for years to come. heat distorts all the parts in there. causes leaks and crappy shifts

its in the cooler line of the transmission, quick dirty fix is to take it out, and turn it upside down so its always open, or you can research it more and buy a kit that removes it completly.  stock trans temp is 200 F if not higher,  removed the t-stat and  it brings you down to 130-150 F, so your reliability of the trans is increased by at least a factor of 2X

Interesting but since it is under warranty--I have a feeling GM wouldn't like the idea and may say since it was changed they can't warranty it.

I purchased my 2018 Chevy Silverado brand new in 2019. A year  later,  w/30,000 miles,  the  truck has the “Chevy Shakes.” The vibration/shimmering over certain speeds(50 +MPH) is unbearable. After doing some research I found I am not alone in this area. I have contacted an attorney and will wait to see how they handle this issue. UNACCEPTABLE!!!!

Just purchased a 2017 Chevy Silverado Z71 Redline edition with the 6.2 ltr (31K miles on it-certified) I bought the truck on 05-23-20 and am experiencing the vibration issues as described in this forum. It is intermittent and I am really worried I am going to get stuck with the nightmare that I can't wake up from. Due to the Memorial day holiday weekend, my credit union has not transferred the money yet. I have emailed the loan officer I was pre-approved from and have instructed him not to transfer the money until they have fixed the issues. I immediately notified the dealership of the issues (withing 24 hours of buying the truck) and got a call back this morning from the salesman. He states" those vibration issues are normal for those trucks, but we can fix it. You are certified and under warranty so you can take it to any Chevy store but we can take care of it". I have read countless stories on here of people having the issues under warranty just like me and either the dealers are performing band aid fixes that aren't permanent or dealer service departments are putting their hands up after multiple attempts to repair and stating "it is a normal amount of shake, deal with it".  Hard to image on JD power has the 2017 Chevy Silverado 1500 rated 4.5 out 5 reliability rating with this BS going on.

 

Suggestions on how to proceed?  My plan is to get something in writing from the dealership that protects me from them just stating "we think the shake is withing tolerance, we are done trying to repair it". I want to tell them I am not going to authorize my lender to release the money for purchase until you have fixed the truck but I am not sure my lender is going to go along with that. I purchased the truck in Missouri which does not have a 3 day return law so that sucks. I can always go the lemon law route as I do believe the shake does substantially affect the value of the vehicle but that sounds like a pain in the ass

 

Any help would be appreciated, never fails everything is built like ****** these days.

LOl guys says it normal, its not. And they wont fix it its been discussed here to no end and there isnt a pinpoint solution. I think there was several guys here that had the engine shimmed, different drive shafts, rear end rebuilt and several sets of different tires and they still had some vibration.  Good luck with it, thats one of the few problems with them. Honestly, Id cancel the deal.  I had countless problems with my 2014

If you can get out of the deal DO IT They cant fix it and they will give up on you I have been thru it Find one that does not vibrate

Good news, dealership just agreed to unwind the deal and take the truck back. Shame, love the power and feel of the truck (aside from the vibration issues). Good luck to everyone. 

 

Anyone have any idea what truck out there is truly reliable. I feel like I can google transmission nightmares with everything but the Tundras.

    • He is not saying that an SAE *W20 will have more viscosity than a *W40 due to MORE VII polymers. He is saying that although multiple *W40 may post in the PDS the same or similar 100 C and 150 C viscosities that the blenders choice of modifier TYPE and AMOUNT to get his chosen base to grade will not give identical real world viscosities in shear and at temperature. All will pass the SII test but not all will pass the 100 C HTHS (unpublished value) testing the blender does and relies on to get the required by law "percentage improvement' referenced to his last great work.    Tis the problem with the lie. Once told others are required to support it. 
    • I have a `25, 1500 that auto sets on incline. Never knew that at first. I have the electronic shifter. Just think if it didn`t do that? Unlike a mechanical shift that you can muscle out of park, how would you get this thing out? That would be a problem.   What I found out later is, I don`t have to push the button to release. Just put it in gear.   Setting parameters? Don`t know if it`s possible.

I usually set the parking brake (habit) when on flat ground for typical driving.    When backed down on the launch ramp to launch the boat and I place gear selector into Park, the parking brake activates automatically. My second nature is to set parking brake manually and noticed I was turing the parking brake off.  The parking brake appears to be setting itself automatically.   I looked all over my owner's manual and only found references to being on an incline and manually setting parking brake, or at times parking brake will be auto engaged, but nothing specific to my situation.    When is the parking brake automatically engaged?  Under what specific circumstances?  Can the auto set parameters be changed?     I like the auto set feature.  It would be nice if always engaged when shifted into Park and released when shifted out of Park (like my wifes 2025 RAV4).   Thanks!

Based on the 2000 samples in the SPEEDiagnostix database, increasing the oil viscosity in these engines, even those run on the track, showed no significant difference in results.   The smoking gun was in the oil chemistry. That is where the data shows higher instances of more wear. Molybdenum was the key; the higher the amount, the less the wear. Speed postulates that higher viscosity oils have more thickeners to artificially inflate their viscosity numbers. These thickeners lose viscosity under shear, and the result is that not all oils of the same viscosity have the same shear stability.   Having enough viscosity is the most important characteristic, but according to Speed, once that required viscosity level is reached, additive chemistry matters more than additional viscosity. Speed also states, oil pressure problems on the racetrack aren’t a viscosity problem; it’s an oiling system problem. Running a thicker oil is just a band-aid for an underlying oiling system problem.
    • Can it still be Assembled II?   Viscosity on the decline by various means. Heat on the rise making that worse. Engine RPM in the tank. Smaller motors with more boost trying to emulate an electric motor. Full torque, zero rpm. Then we will triple the OCI. Argh.    But wait....there is more. LSPI has pushed a shift from Ca to Mg and as that cost more PLUS the run to lower sulfur compounds the TBN is moving in the wrong direction for the increased OCI's demanded.    That not being enough to placate a demand for a parameter they can't measure the other sulfur bearing compounds are also under attack. That would be zinc and phosphorus sulfonate compounds. To some degree those are being replaced with boron esters and others, i.e. titanium ect. All of which have shorter service lives. And there there is the "Secrete Sauce" marketing for AW adds that 'Can't be detected by UOA's" but trust me because I (the blenders) never ever lie.    Spoiler alert; ALL additives are sacrificial! Smaller amounts of the old blended with less robust versions of the new do not equal longer service lives. So what are the blenders recommending? Wait for it.......   MOVING THE GOAL POSTS! OMG      Let's declare the long standing TAN/TBN crossover irrelevant and tell people that soot is a great 'graphite' based lubricant which can aid tribo films. Wait, what? Let's declare that the standards used for oxidation and nitration were to conservative and can be expanded. Let's tell them that because GDI fuel dilution, although being a VISCOSITY KILLER and an acid generator is actually okay because we have better base oils that limit viscosity failure limits. (Said knowing this is measured in fractions of a centipoise and in bases not commonly used in shelf oils)   Lying from the heart is not just the new normal but we have a public, a very young public, that is so ignorant of the facts and so sure of their "RESEARCH" into AI driven models base in regurgitated  instead of scientific research based unvarnished, peer reviewed FACTS that the incoming guard is loosing their grip on reality and the OEM's are tickled pink while the blends bend the knee.    You have an ever limited set of tools to work with. And sooner or later those will be taken from you as the API and the EPA strangle the last remaining fluids from the system. What you have left is your wits. If you care to use them.    At some point in the very near future it will not longer be possible to do "What is best for the machine", and be replaced with "The best you have access too". You WILL be rewarded with half the life and twice the cost. That isn't that hard to predict.
