i just dont see many catastrophic engine failures, and the chance is so slim, i'm sure i could social engineer GM into believing when the engine died it fried the ecu and gave it a wrong CVN code calculation. I do software development, and while it doesn't lie, there are many bugs and sometimes things just don't work right. It isn't as easy as flashed yes or no.

 

I would be interested in learning more about it though, sounds like chris white knows pretty well, but he seems to be a busy man.

The was a member Newn I think had an engine problem. It turned out to be a lifter, they claimed at first they saw a tune or something and harassed him for a while. They later relented and finally fix it. The point is I don't think there are many people that know what they are looking at when they are looking at the dealers. When it come to can tunes they dont run up to the edge like some custom tuners can. So when it comes to a can tune on a gas engine that's not S/C or T/C I cant see them really putting up much of a fight, unless there is a hole in the piston, maybe. Now the transmission and TM maybe. On my Hypertech can tune the trans hits pretty hard to the point that I put some TM back in. On the engine the 15 HP on 93, I left it alone, I get 25 HP on E85. So I can see where the can tune people would jump in and help a buyer on an engine deal they just aren't really putting a hurt on the engine anybody can see that.

yea but whats funny is some dealers actually sell tuners to fix things like wheel size. its pretty hypocritical, and if you look at diesel forums, everyone runs a tune. its kinda like anything in life, some people get screwed while some get everything with a smile. i usually have no problem with returns, exchanges, warranty, or even awesome deals.

I took my truck to the dealer for the recall updates and oil changes etc. they fixed the unwated transfer case into neutral and the peek in odomoter display one. Im winderin if they do updates like that while i habe my tune on if it erases the tune and puts the factory one back on? Cuz it shifts a little smoother and not clunking on low speeds now

So I've read this thread back like 15 pages but I couldn't find an answer.

 

I own a 14' CCSB 5.3, I want better throttle response and for the truck to be a bit quicker. I would like to avoid self tuners since I don't want to invest over $1,000 for software and some dyno time at a tuner shop so I'm looking specifically into boxed tuners. From what I've read the Diablo tuners seem to be pretty popular, could I get some feedback from members who own either the Trinity or the In-Tune?

 

Also what are the main differences between the T-1000 and i-1000? The T-1000 is $529 vs $339. According to both product pages they both offer the same "20hp/25trq Performance" tune and the same adjustable perimeters.

boxed tune on the diablosport i1000 totally sucked. i could tell it shifted different and drove different, but not 400 dollars different. i purchased mine used for 200, so i didn't feel too worried about the money i was out.

 

after a week i got a custom tune from diablew and it was like a whole new truck. so all of this is to say get a custom tune if you get the diablosport.

What are the steps and process for getting a custom tune on a dialosport? Also what is the price?

Does anyone know what computer the flash counter is in? Is the ECM, TCM or the BCM? My guess is it wouldn't be in ECM as if people are cracking into it to tune the motor they would get to the point of cracking the counter and tuning it to stay or at least be able to set it to where it was before you flashed a tune into it.

From what I understand both the ECM/TCM has flash counters in them.

Why can't new ecm's be used like on previous trucks?

Just as tiger posted and for the very reason you want to use another ECM. I can promise you, GM engineers read these forums and find out every trick we know and implement ways to stop those tricks on the new vehicles.

 

on the new 2014 trucks the dealer can only program the truck the exact way that truck with that VIN came from the factory as, no more making changes after the fact with mods on the 2014+ vehicles.
