Simple Question.

Is it possible to increase the distance between the spindle center and fender lip using nothing but the adjustments on your 5100's without an extension in damper overall length?

Your out of his league, well most of ours. He's lost the argument, that's why the insults started.

This BS happens in here constantly, people need to leave each other alone and not try to cut down each other just for not agreeing to another’s way of doing things.
Personally, I send my vehicles to the experts (I suggest everyone to do the same) and do not take to heart advice from members on forums especially the ones that like to insult or cut down others and the “Know It Alls”. I too used to get bent out of shape, (mostly ignore or make a laugh out of it) decided at the end of the day, I send my truck into the experts, hand them the keys, pickup a badass looking and exceptional riding truck that far exceeds the relentless worthless input from all the above I’ve mentioned. To each their own, Good luck and God Bless.

Amen to that, nothing beats the experts though I respect everyone's advice and opinions. Given you're from Texas I'm guessing you have a lot of shops for your trucks. Being in an urban area in Canada its damn hard to find a reputable and trustworthy repair shop. Most of the shops I go to won't even install aftermarket parts and knows jack about cars let alone modifications (so you kind of have to do the research for them and just bring in all the parts so they can install them while reading the manuals). There are a lot of people who know their stuff in the US, I've seen a couple of awesome shops online too bad I can't go there haha. Still on the lookout though if anyone has any recommendations.

Cheers

I always figure if any other human can do it I can too. That’s served me well over the years. I don’t do myself much anymore but the knowledge has enable me help an expert or two finish the job. I never turn a job over to someone unless I research and can mentally do the job. The experts don’t have skin in the game, you do.

You follow just fine. Don't discount yourself. I'm sure most got it.

Someone says, "Pepsi is the greatest taste on earth". If you like 7UP then to disagree is rational, reasonable and even expected.

Someone says,  " 2 + 2 = 4", and you disagree...….well...….a village is missing it's idiot.

I know this and still...I know....it's a flaw...I'll work on it some more. Apology to the OP.

On another note. A shop and a shingle does not an expert make. A big corporate name doesn't insure a quality well thought out and well engineered product. They see a market space and fill it as cheaply as possible.

Interesting video below (jump to about 3 minutes to see the carnage). People wrongfully bash all over Rancho's and swing on the nuts of Thyssenkrupp Bilstein's (apparently we have to say the parent company Thyssenkrupp Bilstein when speaking about shocks which is an elevator company but what ever). Yet in the video both trucks equipped with factory off road packages with ThyssenKrupp Bilstein's (one midsize and one fullsize) blew their shocks in spectacular fashion; while the car based Ridgeline had one with a slight leak. Hmm, should a premium manufacturer of shocks that are supposedly far superior to Rancho's have failed in such fashion? One shock ok a fluke, but six on two trucks (the fronts were also blown on the Titan in a follow up)? I do not feel comfortable now with some dirt road abuse that Thyssenkrupp Bilstein's can last and are a worthwhile upgrade...

Alll brands have their flaws, I'm not personally bashing Rancho for anything except ride quality. I don't expect long term reliability from any other aftermarket shock but I just need something a little less harsh on the bumps. I'd still like to hear the reasoning behind stiff shocks for off-roading, I don't expect Fox level performance from factory shocks but at least put something softer on the Z71.

People confuse terms when talking about this topic. Easy to do. Stiff, firm, soft, compliant. Someone says that about off road I expect they mean a high spring rate. Someone says that for a street shock they usually mean valving that passes fluid slowly or high dampening. Then again some people don't know what their talking about.

You did hear him explain the reason was the lower un-sprung weight of the Honda's independent suspension...right? You kind of get the idea when the independent front ends of the other faired as well as the Honda. Why? Same reason. Lighter un-sprung weight.

I don't know about the rest of you but I can't find anywhere in my area where I need a shock that can handle 100 miles or more of washboard gravel in 120 F + heat.

Hey, I dropped a Cadillac off a three story building once and it didn't survive. Must be a real piece of junk, eh?

Context is everything.

Ummm, i don’t really mean to put anyone on the defense or intention to hurt anyone’s feelings but I’ve never had a pair of ranchos on any of my Z71’s that didn’t ride like crap! In all honesty, dealership has replaced each and everyone of my Z71’s Ranchos due to leaking on every truck I’ve ever had excluding the ones with original yellow Bilsteins, each and everyone of them. Most that don’t mind the shock are either cheap asses that look to defend their conscience from the masses that have proven time and time again just how horrible they truly are or really just drive on pavement without off-road contact. I even offered my yard guy the brand new set that replaced the ones on my 18 at approx 3k miles and his response was priceless “ No thank you, Rancho Suck!”

Fox, CST, King, now these are awesome shocks that’ll help you succeed in off-road travels. Some new companies out there too crawling up the ladder.
