Several of us who have data logged these motors agree that 89 (personally 91+) octane should be used. The truck pulls a pretty good amount of timing on 87 octane.....

 

On the switch to V4 there's a lot of KR (under low load not a huge issue).

Is this easily findable in a data log? Can you find this info in the log with the DiabloSport free Windows program they have or using the Torque Android app. I've look at the timing sensor in the Torque app while driving and it's always changing value. What kind of reading are you looking for and when? Also the knock sensor I've only ever seen at 0 the entire time so not even sure if that sensor is actually working.

So I installed my headers this weekend and now my check engine light is on which I knew would happen but when I'm stopped my idle is kind of rough is this something BBP can fix with a tune? I'm going to get the AutoCal just waiting for funds lol.

Yes, you need to get a tune when you install headers. Also, have you checked the for sale section on the forum? I purchased a gently used AutoCal for $150. So it saved me $150 and then I paid $300 to BBP for their tuning services. Just have to make sure the AutoCal was either purchased from BBP originally or it is unlocked.

Anyone with a Diablo tuner willing to make a video of them tunning their truck? I haven't been able to find a lot of videos of the turner itself, just before and after runs of the vehicle. I'm would like to see the tuner actually being used and some of the features it offers and maybe talking through some of the screens.

That's one of 2 videos I've been able to find on how the tuner works, but he doesn't go into a lot of detail. With as popular as this tuner appears to be for our trucks, I'm surprised there aren't more videos out there with a GM vehicle.

i just threw in some 89 to see if it makes a big enough difference. I will log some data and compare the 89 and the 87. I need 10% better MPG for the boss to justify the 10% increase in cost per liter.

On our 14 Sierra, the biggest gains were inthe throttle response. I felt the factory throttle cal was about the worst offered by GM ever, and after some fine tuning, we were able to make the throttle much more lively, and we offer the end user further adjustment to make the throttle response work to your liking :)

 

Theres also a solid 20 rwhp/20-25 ft-lbs in the tunes...

 

Our tunes can't be seen by the dealer either ;)

So still not many 8 speed guys here. So who offers full tcm support? T87 module I believe? I wouldnt mind putting the camaro/corvette 'track' or 'sport' shift mapping just so these trucks don't cut power on every shift. Maybe even make the tow/haul a sport mode since I hardly tow.

 

Wish I hadn't spent money on a Diablosport product had I known they had no eta or plan for the 8 speeds.

Any tuner that uses EFILive can tune the 8 speed trans.

I'm an 8 speed owner and I am tuned as of yesterday. We fiddled with the truck for a couple hours on the dyno.

I've been researching this some (because I'm a nerd). What they are saying is theoretically true.

 

GM uses a hashing algorithm to compute a checksum of the tune. The hashing function they use is most likely a 32 bit key space which is over 4 billion values, but with a big enough input size, eventually all hashing algorithms will have duplicate keys. What that means is that it's possible to have 2 different tune files hash to the same key, and thus not be detectable by the version checker.

 

However, it's not a simple thing to construct 2 inputs that hash to the same key, and it still has to be a valid tune file that does what you want. I'm not sure how big the image actually is, but I'm pretty sure it's less than 4GB, which makes it a lot less likely.

 

So, long story short, I'm skeptical that it can be done.
