I'm in the same boat and my service/parts dept. told me they wouldn't do the console swap. He said he may be able to get me one but it would void the warranty if I changed it out wtf?!?!

That is your dealers way of saying " We do not want to mess with it "  :loser:

Another example of GM removing previously standard features to force customers into a much more expensive truck. What's next? Replacing the rear disk brakes with drum brakes?

I didn't know there was no storage in the console when I ordered it, by the time you find out it's too late. Even the dealer sales rep couldn't believe it, I guess mine was the first one he has seen.

Yeah I was about to run down and kick the tires on a cajun red Trail Boss Custom. Not sure if I want to deal with the pain of trying to swap out the armrest for one with a storage console. I'm hoping someone figures out what's required to do a swap. Really stupid on GM's part.

It really is.  I mean why in the world would they get rid of something so valuable.   I really don’t get what they was thinking?!!!    If I knew this before buying my custom trailboss, I wouldn’t of got it.  I didn’t think to check the center console, just figured it had it since every truck I’ve own has had one. Now. I’ve just gotten use to not having storage there, I just throw all my stuff in the door pocket.  But it still does suck!!

Would you happen to have the link to that? I also found out that gm doesn’t make the lt trailboss in double cabs. Like why

When I talked to my dealer, I only wanted a double cab as well, they said they manufacture crew cabs first, that eventually theyll come out with a double cab, but build the crews first apparently. Not sure if it was a lie or what but, what I was told

So for everyone's info I wanted my dealer to do this for me. They wanted $1500 for the center console in parts alone. Each part had to be ordered separately. They can't order it as a complete assembly and they said they would not assemble one and install it because between the $1500 for parts plus full assembly labor it would cost a fortune.

I found one at a salvage yard. The salvage truck only had 40 miles on it. I had it delivered complete for about $800. The swap is relatively easy. The Custom jump seat only has 4 bolts. I think they were 18mm. Problem is the rear bolts are almost impossible to get to without removing the rear bolts of both the driver and passenger seats. Those are torx 50 and have blue Loctite on them. I removed those on the back of the drivers and passenger seats (2 in the rear of each seat) and then loosened the front torx bolts on each to allow me to prop the seats up while I removed the jump seat rear bolts.

So the jump seat bottom storage key lock. This is something you want to do before you start ripping your truck apart. You can't do this with the LT seat installed. You just slide the circlip inside the seat housing, off the end of the lock cylinder and that allows the locking arm to come off. Now you are free to pull the lock cylinder out but be careful. It is 3 small flat pins and 3 tiny springs. I got lucky and just tried different positions of the pins that came in the donor seat until it worked with my key. I got it right on the 3rd try. If you can't get the combo right with 3 pins you could possibly run with 2 pins if you can get it to work. I just hate spare parts so I lucked out.

Here's the kicker. The LT seat has the 2 USB ports and the 12 V cigarette lighter type port with a wiring harness running through the seat. The Custom Trail Boss floor wiring harness does not have a port for this connection so you can't do an easy plug and play to gain power for those jump seat ports. It bothers me because I hate having things in my vehicle that don't work but what the hell, the people in the back don't get to have power I guess. If anyone figures out how to run power to those please let me know. Good luck.

it would be great if a company came up with an after market solution. I was driving my trail boss home and went to put something in the arm rest anddddd it didn't open haha.

I went from a 2010 Sierra z71 SLE -> 2016 Silverado Z71 LT -> Trail Boss Custom. I got the Custom Trail Boss, 13k cheaper than the LT, same look and mechanics, but cuts out all the subpar upgrades. If I was going to spend 57k, the 2019 Ram Rebel is a huge upgrade in every way. But for me I walked out the door with mine just under 40k for the custom, and it is a simple but nice truck, reminds me a my old TJ Wrangler, more function over form. But on my way home I tried to open the center console and then spent almost an hour trying to figure out why it wouldn't open. I found this thread, honestly this is absolutely insane. A $10 savings basically has ruined this truck, there is no driver storage, nothing for glasses, pens, change, mints, its crazy.  I owned an 1986 4 speed escort, without power steering and air conditioning, and the car had a center console.

All that aside, just waiting on the fix, the LT jump seats are going for $600-800 on eBay. I can't find anything aftermarket. What sucks is most of the surplus jump seats on eBay come from police cruisers, but I bet they order custom models.

Dude I did the same damn thing. My girlfriend and I were on our way home from picking up the truck and I asked her to throw all my purchase documents in the center console. Anddd come to find out it doesn't have one!!! I was like what the ****!!. Since this is going to be a huge pain in the ass for people I bet someone will make an after market solution. Even and extension piece that make it a full center console would be fine. I just need a little bit of storage.

    • Common Sense Assembly   Your driveline is forgiving of the occasional mistake. It will even often forgive the random serious blunder. But it will not forgive a continuous bad habit.      What? Not everything needs to be a five thousand word essay.
    • We drove about 15 minute east today to visit a friend and saw a steep increase in price in the same county. About 50 cents a gallon steepper.
    • Sure about that? A degree wheel and a dial indicator would lower your degree of assurance in that statement. 😉    It why we have offset keys and dialable timing sprockets. Just say'n.... I've built a few and have never seen one "On the money".
    • I will admit I haven't experimented much with pressure drops beyond the numbers I put in and part of that is that the numbers I used are fairly low and then found out it would trigger regardless at that 35 psi. Having said that I had tried before had changed the placard pressures and being that I have a 1 ton set to 80 on the placard for the rear I believe it triggered close to 60, the front I don't recall now for sure but thought maybe it could get close to 45 from that factory 60 placard pressure. So I never did figure out if it was a number of psi from placard pressure to the alarm or a percentage of the total placard number as some figured it was like a 25% drop from placard pressure would trigger it. So as to try and answer your question, I believe I set the placard pressure on the front to 47 or so and while I run the front tires at 40, they have dipped below that some if its colder and I haven't put "winter air" in yet and never once have had the front alarm go off. I would say that the answer your looking for is no, that if you set your placard pressure to 45, you have a certain amount of room to drop below that pressure before the alarm will go off.    The pressures you decide to run in your truck, that ends up being what makes sense to you based on what your carrying in your truck or if towing, then have to bump them back up to something that will carry the load in the rear and the fronts typically left at the same pressure. It all comes down to that chart I put the link to and using an accurate roadside scale to be your guide, both unloaded and then loaded to know your minimum safe pressures.    I just wish GM would allow a person to change the readings for the tire pressures to the English system of pounds as I have to look at that goofy metric reading that will never ever jive in my head and will go over and change it just to figure out what they are if need be and then change it back.
    • That part I understand, that the dealer can do it. But I'm not understanding why updates that were available to the truck since it left the factory, or the dealership originally, would not still be available to it without dealer intervention.   I'm thinking along the lines of recalls. They stay available until they are completed, regardless of whether they are in warranty or not, or in the hands of the original owner or not. Why not updates as well, especially since some of those can be safety related also?
