It literally just plugs in.  They may have only noticed the larger harness.  But there are  no modifications needed to the mirror harness.
Yes,

Double check their work. I bought that exact one and it was plug and play. They might not have pulled down the right connection.

So I finally had time to do mine yesterday.  Like others have said, the hardest part is removing the black cover behind the mirror.  It's in two pieces.  I was able to get the larger piece loose relat

Thank you!  You are correct. Installed myself in less than an hour. The dealer tech either saw the large unused plug when he took down the console or saw the plug behind the black plastic cover on the windshield. I am not sure what that is, but everything fit under the cover when I put everything back together. Hardest part was getting the plug unstuck and cleaning glue off so  it could plug into the mirror.

Thanks everyone for the tips, pics, and links. Now I need the tip to get the dang black t20s in under the console!  Can’t get either of them in and have now dropped one into the abyss of the truck floor. Any idea on a size of that screw? 
 

Otherwise, works as intended and relatively simple install!

Stick your screws on the end of your t20 tool with hot melt Gun Gun then you can stick it up in the hole with out it falling off make it super easy to do

Good idea!  I was able to get the one in. Still looking for the other.  I honestly have no idea where it disappeared to when I dropped it!

I magnetized my torx driver when I did this job.

Mine is blue too....there goes that theory! ? In all honesty it was a simple install.  Patience, which I lack sometimes, is key.

I just ordered the same exact one for the same price.  I can't believe that my  RST Z71 came with a "dumb" mirror and manual folding mirrors on the outside.  You would think a 53k truck would come with this and power folding mirrors.  My 2005 LS came with those options and it was 23k truck back then.

Just want to thank everyone in this thread for the info !  I ordered the GM Part 13581082 as listed in this thread.  I followed the instructions and installed this in less than 30 minutes in my 2019 Silverado 1500 RST.  The plug was glued in the ceiling pillar as noted and I had to use a flat head screwdriver to pry it off the metal, but it works like a champ.  Still not sure why this is not included in a truck that costs as much as it does, but the upgrade was easy enough.

Installed my gen8 hl auto dim mirror... It really does make a difference, simple install, I'm half ass smart with electrical and mine works great, I did have to run both power sources to the same spot as I couldn't find a constant 12v (was lazy and didn't test either)d4858ef8e1547cd61aacbe2b1a05ba8e.jpg

      14-18 Sierra 1500 Heated Steering Wheel Help

      Howdy folks,   Recently I pulled a heated steering wheel and clock spring out of a 2015 Sierra All Terrain (part numbers coming soon - will have to disassemble), and just installed it on my 2016 Sierra WT (as base model as it gets).   On install, I noticed that I’m missing the connector often tucked behind the dash for the heating element.     No problem… or so I thought.   I used an “Add-A-Fuse” at my heated steering wheel fuse location, which has voltage, but no wires. I ran it to the positive of the heated steering wheel (Violet/White), and took black to ground.   Hooked up the battery, turned the truck on - no heated steering wheel. No button backlights. Was pleased to see that my cruise control was working though.   Read a post suggesting reversing polarity, so I gave it a shot. Violet and White to ground, Black to power.    Aha! Heat! But I seemingly can’t turn it off AND still no backlights on any of the buttons.    Checked all fuses, everything is still in good order. I’m stumped.   Does anyone have any insight? If so, please share!

      I'm about 1800 miles into my last oil change, and yesterday a message appeared saying oil life was at 77%. Not sure why it popped up but I think all of these electronics could be susceptible to solar flares or somesuch. I change my oil right at 3K each time, and that was the first time in 10870 miles that message came up. Strange thing is that it showed on the screen at all since I don't drive with that sort of info displayed on the DIC.

      Checked the pads today and there's plenty of meat on them. If the message keeps coming up, I'll just answer YES that the pads were replaced and wait for the squeal.

      Welcome to the Forum! Always post the code definitions along with the codes. there are over 18000 possible codes, no one remembers them all and most will skip over your post rather than look them up
