"Pull on a Union Job sight and see how many foreign cars are in the parking lot.

It's interesting that you made that assessment. Drive by any public school parking lot and count how many Honda's, Toyota's and Hyundai's are sitting there. Yet these teachers and administrators live 100% on taxes from the general public, and are union members that always vote themselves first over the students. Pay raises, increased health benefits, increased retirement benefits, etc, and yet they run out and justify buying vehicles without an American nameplate and typically not union-made. Hypocrisy at its best!

There are different levels of union workers and you are correct, and I don't understand it at all.

I can't speak for all, I just know my personal experiences and the blue collar hard working union members I have had the pleasure of working with most of my life, bleed red, white and blue. I take this conversation very personal because I know what my union brothers are about but I also understand that until you work side by side with us, most will never understand.

I'm engineer and I don't work for GM and I guarantee you the same so called low level employees and line workers are making more per hour than I do. And they didn't have to get a college degree or anything else for it simply because they are in the Union. I call bull on your statement. They have no goals objectives due dates requirements that have to be done even after they leave work. They have the gravy jobs in this country.

Then I suggest you go in to your bosses office and try to negotiate a better wage package for yourself. With out the unions you would proably make less than you do now. The unions are what made the american workforce so strong. The unions are orgonized labor and collectively bargain with the company. I can not belive any blue collor worker would be anti union. I make a good wage and my job is protected because of the unions. The things I am seeing in this thread discust me.

Also this sanction strike vote is just a formality. They do this to show GM that if they will not bargain in good faith they will stick together and walk. Any union worth their salt will vote this through prior to a contract negotion.

To be fair, most guys on the line do a lot of work and deserve fair compensation for what they do. But there is a lot of folks under the UAW umbrella that need to be culled from the herd.

Isn't this concept true for ANY group of workers ?

That is WONDERFULL NEWS, THEY ARE GOING TO STRIKE AGAINST THEMSELVES WHILE OBAMA AND FRIENDS TAKE GM TO CHINA.

The Last GM purchase I made is the LAST GM purchase I will ever make.

Proves you know nothing about unions or what a strike sanction vote is or what it's purpose is. And all you can do is badmouth unions. tisk tisk how shameful.

I will gladly keep paying union dues. I will take being a represented employee over a non represented employee any day. I think I sense a lot of jealousy in this thread.

Unions created the weekend, holiday pay and child labor laws...

Look at the working conditions in China. Guess what before the unions it was the same way in the states.

Blah blah blah..

You are referring to me, and you clearly don't understand the history of unions, and the socialist principles they are founded on.

I remember getting the union rag in my short stint as a union electrician, and it struck me funny that they were ragging on Bush for having his people make them cover the country of origin on the boxes of electrical supplies because the union bought their stuff from China because the union made equivalent were much more expensive.

Too rich.. A union refusing to buy union made electrical equipment because the union profits would be impacted..

Too damn funny..

And again, if you bother to do any basic research, you will find that almost every union in this country gives almost exclusively to the liberals.. And they are the ones screwing the American workers!! So keep on toeing the union line, and watch as your liberal masters flood the country with unskilled labor to replace you idiots... And if you think it isn't happening, you are blind as well as stupid..

Unions will support politicians that will help their membership and that happens to be Democrats. Look at MI, IN, WI that recently passed right to work laws. The laws which were all written by ALEC were all urged and signed by republican governors. The only thing that recently stopped MO from becoming a RTW state was the Democrat Governor that vetoed the bill. The only thing stopping IL gov Rauner from turning IL into a RTW state is a Democratic House and Senate. RTW can be wrapped up and disguised as giving people a choice but everyone knows that it is an anti-union law made to weaken Unions, plain and simple. Republicans say that there are too many freeloaders in this country but RTW by law gives those that choose not to belong to a Union but working at a Union workplace the same pay, benefits and union representation as those that are dues paying members so who supports freeloaders now? Being that republican politicians propose and support anti-union legislation why wouldn't Unions want to support Democrats? It may be a simple matter of supporting the lesser of two evils however you don't reward your enemies by supporting them.

As far as liberals flooding the country with unskilled workers. I don't think that the Democratic politicians are driving across the boarder and bringing them in. People come here for one reason; to make money and have a better life. They would not come here if companies wouldn't hire and exploit them. Most owners of companies support republicans so if these companies would not hire undocumented workers they would quit coming here.

Lots of vitriol here! Should people be able to stand together against unreasonable working conditions? Sure. Should these same people have the right not to work if they don't agree with the conditions? Yes. Should an employer be able to replace them? Yes. Notice all the non-union jobs available in right to work states at foreign auto plants? We compete globally...if you want to be paid well you better have a difficult to replace function.

In my experience of living in a GM town and having relatives who worked for GM, and know GM Union employees. My Wife was a Union worker, paid her dues. The sad thing about the union is they will fight tooth and nail for the bad worker, the guy or gal that gets drunk, does not do their job, is caught messing around when on the job. But as soon as a good employee who takes their job seriously has a need, they throw them away like yesterdays garbage and will not defend them. The Union is as corrupt as the government.

I don't deny this happens, and it's not uncommon to get the "blood is thicker than water" mentality in a union but again, union & government ARE NOT corrupt, it's the people "we" put in those positions. Unfortunately the people that don't let power go to their heads rarely seek the positions they would be perfect to fill.

You would have to be an idiot to think that either is perfect, there is corruption everywhere... Military, Police Force, Hospitals, Churches. Everybody knows this but most turn away and stay out of it because it doesn't effect them. PEOPLE are corrupt, not the institutions. That's like saying "guns kill people"!

There is a tipping point with the unions as good as they are, just look at Detroit. I drive cars built by Americans Union or not, big three or not. There was a post awhile back stating no unions I wouldn't buy, he was likely driving a crew cab, made in Mexico.
