Last week ordered a 2021 Sierra AT4.  Dealer said they were on hold for that model.  They put the order in but had no idea when it would be built.  Anyone else hear of this?

I was talking with friend last Friday who is GMC salesman and does all the vehicle ordering about ordering a new truck. I am getting a Denali but I do recall him saying the AT4 was on constraint.. Also on constraint was the 6.2L engines and spray-in bed liners as well as some other options I don't recall. As of lats Friday they were only allocating a little over 700 6.2L engines nationwide.    He says trucks are hard to get right now, they typically have up to 50 trucks this time of year but they only have 9 on the lot and demand it very high.  All the shut downs have hurt suppliers and put a strain on the supply chain.  I won't know until tomorrow if my Denali went through, last weeks orders get pulled today (see below) and sent to production control if they dealer got any allocations.

DOSP - Dealer Order Submission Process

The weekly process consists of 4 stages.

1. Constraints Distribution - Dealers are informed on constraints to review before placing orders.  (A Constraint is a limit placed on specific build configurations.)

2. Dealer Order Submission - Dealers can order on Thursday, Friday or no later than midnight on Saturday. (You can submit orders earlier but you don't know the constraints.)

3. The 4-Pass Process - GM will attempt to place each dealer’s orders on Mondays using a 4-Pass process. (At this point a dealer may get more or less than was allocated, if they asked.)

4. Dealer Review - You can review your placed orders for changes or replacements until Tuesday at 9pm ET. That's when the orders are sent to production control.

Yes they said constraint on my AT4.  So my chances of getting one are slim. I had a 6.2L with a standard box, and every other option, not the short useless box everyone else likes.

Haven't heard anything regarding constraints, but I ordered through an independent dealer/broker.

I'm confused about this. (although it wouldn't be the first time I misinterpreted somebodies post ?)

All 1500 double cabs are standard box (6.5 ft)

1500 crews are available in short box or standard box.

1500 crew short, is about the same length as 1500 double cab standard box.

The only 1500 that can get a long box (8ft) is the regular cab -- and (this generation) regular cab has not been released in north america with the standard box

The 'double cab' design replaced the 'extended cab' design in the GM line-up.

Double cab has 4 forward hinged doors -- but they are not the same size as the doors on the crew cab.

For 2021 the crewcab is still available with either the short box or the standard box.

Should have said the AT4 is not available in double cab...

Good point -- and I was ignoring trim levels...

Denali always was, and AT4 is now, only available in crew cab.

Both are available in standard or short box.

All AT4 are 4WD.

Denali 2wd is available in short box only.

Denali 4wd is available short or standard box.

Good afternoon!
I ordered a 2021 Sierra 1500 AT4 CarbonPro with 3.0L Duramax on October 19. The order got picked up on Oct 23 and it’s supposed to be built this week and at the dealership before Christmas.
I got it fully loaded. Sunroof, Brembo brakes, technology package, 20 inch grey wheels. It said the new Goodyear Territory tires were not available at the start of production. So I’ll change the tires from “P” to “LT” at delivery.

I haven’t heard about any constraints on the AT4. Maybe it’s on certain configurations or maybe I snuck in under the wire.

I’m excited for the new truck. I’ll be trading in my 2019 Ram 1500 Rebel.

The lease to my 2017 GMC Sierra All Terrain was ending in April of this year. I planned on purchasing a new truck that was a bit more capable of towing my travel trailer. After a lot of back-and-forth trying to find one, my dealer suggested ordering the exact truck I wanted.

Originally ordered a 2020 Silverado, due to Covid-related delays, I just took delivery on my 2021 Silverado LTZ

Order placed in Chevrolet System: 6/12

Built: 10/5

Shipped: 10/10

Delivery: 10/30

2021 Chevrolet Silverado LTZ, 6.2L, 10-Speed, LTZ Premium Package, Technology Package, Max Trailering. Ordered the wheel-to-wheel steps, Chevytec spray-on bedliner, and Chevy Front and rear all-weather floor liners. Currently waiting on the hard folding tonneau from Rev (GM Accessories).

MSRP: $63,525

Sale Price (before tax and fees): $55,876

After watching this and the addition of the GMC tailgate coming in 3rd quarter I may wait 9-10 months for a 22' unless my dealer gives me a VERY good deal on my already ordered truck.

You don't know what you're paying for a truck you ordered? The only thing you shouldn't know at this point is any rebates that may be available at the time of delivery, the actual purchase price should be set already.

Ya I know that which is why I'm hoping to have the VIN before the end of the year as it will depend on incentives more than an anything for me since I get GM Supplier.

My point on the above post was to say with the new interior with large display and the multi function tailgate coming out I won't buy my ordered truck without a very good deal. My supplier price with current incentives right now is $8639 off MSRP which is good but it will also depend on trade value.

I ordered a 21 CCSB SLT on Oct 7th. Dealer just called to say truck has been built and is getting ready to be shipped and he expects it to land by the end of the month. If that holds true it will be slightly less than 60 days from ordering to delivery. When I placed the order I was hoping to have the truck by the end of the year, so timing wise I'm very pleased.

The other good news is the VIN starts with a 1, so it is a Ft Wayne build and not coming from Mexico.

Why are you trading? Problems with the Ram?

No, I haven’t had any problems with the Ram. I only have about 13000km on it. Overall I love the truck. It’s fairly loaded and quite comfortable. The capabilities are good on the truck. I personally am not an overall huge fan of the giant screen. The novelty is nice. But the function falls short and seems a bit clumsy.

I bought the Ram originally because we needed a second vehicle and a truck. I wanted to get a diesel because I love diesel vehicles. We have a 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee with an eco diesel. We love that. I grew up driving diesel trucks. So brings back good memories :)

I've always had Dodge/Ram and decided on the new GMC because of the inline 6 with 10 speed. So to me this is more about the inter workings than the cosmetic appearance. I don’t mind the dash. I think it functions well. I like the CarbonPro bed. They seem to have better reviews than the eco diesel now.

It came down to numbers though. I would’ve kept the Ram longer. But I’m getting a good deal on trade in and am not losing anything. And the new GM I’m getting at a good price as well. So to me makes sense.

    • Yep, just a quick reference point.    My main point being I’d do a thousand other things before I’d pay 10k for a transmission.    Speaking in ignorance cause I don’t look at these trucks, what is it worth? 20k?
    • I think users are going to want to pick their monitored parameters, which parameters they want to see first.    It should probably start with baseline at a minimum and adjust to learned, but be able to overlay baseline for comparison.   A simple severity level would be able to determine what type of alerting is appropriate or user selectable.    Why not use the OBD port though?   I think a phone connection would be a good idea, push notifications type deal.   Number 1 issue is having data is useless if you don’t know what the data should be under normal conditions.
    • I thought I would use your thread and add to it as I just did my first longer drive with my truck in the last couple of days. I drove from the Grande Prairie area of Alberta down to Edmonton and most of where I drove in the city was the ring road so fairly free flowing but a bit of stop and go as well in the city. Stayed the night and returned home and not too many stops along the way each way but every restart and certainly every cold start sets it back for fuel mileage. Why I say that is I see some people will cherry pick a fuel mileage leg after the vehicle had been warmed up driveline wise before hand and its a forgiving ( easy rolling drive leg for example ) and call that their fuel mileage which can give a false perception of reality. I was not heavily loaded at all but never the less the flip bak cover, rubber bed mat, various tools etc and extra jerry cans of fuel all way up to a few hundred pounds of dead weight so its not an empty truck. The cold inflation tire pressures are set more near the freezing point so once they are warmed up driving I was showing 45 front and over 40 rear and realize high inflation pressures would help a little in fuel mileage but certainly not the ride on our crap sections of highway. The weather was good so was not raining as that can really drag mileage down, in fact I had a bit of a tail wind on average driving home. Most people on here would never have driven on that freeway to visualize it but its got a fair bit of rolling type of landscape with numerous river valleys. For the most part I had it on cruise set to 62 although kicking it off if I caught it in time before it started down shifting and self braking going down the grades. Most of the more substantial grades its shifting into 7th I believe as 8th just doesn't have it. Total distance round trip was 643 miles and my overall average and I did refuel three times in all, figured out to 17.65 miles per US gallon. My best fuel mileage section refuel within all of this figured out to 18.46 and these are all hand calculated figures. I find if anything that the trucks computer can be over optimistic, sometimes its pretty close but other times its stretching it. On paper persay in theory the truck would have just about made it on fumes for that whole drive without refueling once.    Which made me think of the topic thread of the wonder if these trucks could do 20 mpg and that is a good question, certainly would have to be on an easy going flat highway, no head wind, the right temperature, not packing around a bunch of dead weight and puttering along even slower than I was I would suspect and going steady and not stopping to smell the flowers or take a piss !. It probably is possible but not without effort to attain that with the wind resistance and weight of these trucks. Of course on my drive most people are passing me if they have the power as per loaded highway tractors, never mind a lot of speedy vehicles but the speed limit is 68 and most are at or well over that.
    • Monday looks like a good day for the dealer to test an ac issue. Hopefully it all turns out good.
