Does it seem like it runs any differently after the updates? Just wondering. My truck runs great now and kinda hesitant to bring it in

All they are reprogramming is the BCM. So theoretically no performance issues should be noticeable after the update.

I think and i may be wrong, the only changes were when the computer sensed a converter overtemp.. i would assume it has i higher "rich" value then before to cool down the exhaust. aslo why ppl in extream cold are the only ones woth the issue because they are running leaner in that cold air

Well in the real world regardless of suspected cause, your home owners insurance would pay the costs up to the amount specified by your policy.

Any suspicions of your truck being the cause and GM being liable would happen way after the fact and would either be pursued by your insurance company and/or by you through civil litigation and if you are lucky and found in your favor, 3-5 years would have been lapsed between incident and payment by GM.

If the scenario as described happened, GM is not going to just pull up and write you a check. Fires are nasty things and vehicle fires are the worst. Just to say your truck was the source of a fire and burned down your house will not be good enough and GM will be lawyer'd up hard to have plausible deniability that something else near or by your truck caused the issue.

I can't fathom that a truck would burn down a house as its problem comes from long idling in extreme cold. If it were idling a long time, it wouldn't likely be done in an attached garage AND said attached garage wouldn't be as cold as outside because it's attached

The bottom line is ........ a brand new truck costing upwards of FORTY LARGE shouldn't be catching fire to begin with! Is some QC too much to ask?

Thank God GM doesn't build aircraft ...

I got too lazy to read this whole thread and quit on page 6 where the dates are all on the 13th... but here's what I know (and I'm in a dealership in sales management)

GM posted inventory VINs 1st as they are easy to track. Our inventory was stop saled on Friday Jan 10th.

On Mon Jan 13th, GM released the stop sale and had a dealer inventory VIN list AND a fix available, no customer VIN list as of yet. (My inventory was all done that day)

Today on Thurs the 16th, GM released customer VINS to VIS and the fixes, but it will take time for the mail to deliver notifications. You CAN get your truck done from today forward IF it's effected. Your dealership can confirm if you are effected. My own is, and is labeled as such today in the computer but wasn't as of yesterday.

On my own 2 cents... the whole idling on 2 cylinders thing is just bad reporting... they don't do that, never have, never will.

The people who commented about their recall being done already according to their dealer... I think (and I say think, because I can't be sure) that it was NOT done and the service adviser didn't know any better. They probably looked and saw a different recall was performed and just decided, yup that's it. You should get your VIN re-checked as of today or wait for a notification in the mail.

Now, that's all I can think of from what I know... but for what I don't know, cause I'm not a tech anymore... and hopefully someone else can make me feel better about this... what gets changed in this new calibration? GM doesn't come right out and say it in plain english to us. It IS the engine control module that gets reprogrammed, not the BCM. And the ironic part... my service dept had to idle them all before reflashing... I found that one funny.

My worry is that it can change the characteristics of my truck. I have the 4.3L and LOVE it! It's got way more power than my 2012 4.8L could ever dream of, and I'm getting unbelievable fuel economy... really, nobody believes me untill I march them out to my truck to show them my best scores on my dash. I have gotten 8.4L/100KM which is 28mpg for you American folk... and I don't want that messed up!

Amen to Ridersfan. My 5.3 is great and I don't want to be the first one to get the recall fix....

Finally got an email about an hour ago. Frick, now I have to make time in my busy schedule to go take care of this crap.

Got my 4.3 done this morning, no noticeable difference.

Really, So my truck had all updates (except 14008) prior to me taking it in 2 days ago when the service Mgr called me and said he had the fire update. Actually they got it on Tuesday, called me and 14008 was what I had done Wednesday.

Ridersfan post IMO is misleading as it was posted yesterday and mine was done Wednesday.

Just saying.....

Is it true that the 6.2 is not affected by the "fire" recall? Has anyone on here with a 6.2 received a notification of the recall? My dealer can confirm that there are no recall listed for mine, but cannot tell me if the 6.2 is affected by it. I'm geting mine tuned on Tuesday, in Charlotte, NC, 6 hours aways, and don't want to come back and find the dealership wants to reprogram my ECM.
