Intellilink MyLink Open Source Software, Apps, etc

Recommended Posts

Wanted to start a thread about advanced use of Intellilink (Mylink) software and get opinions/insight about open source, code, possibilities for customization, rumors of firmware updates, etc. The "claim" I've heard is that apps will be avaialable in the future, but it doesnt quite sound as simple and prolific as the google play store or itunes app store. There are some short threads about more specific issues like "custom ROMs" for android.

http://www.gm-trucks.com/forums/topic/155965-mylink-radio-custom-theme-design/?hl=%2Bopen+%2Bsource#entry1384343

Does anyone have any particulalry cool "ah-ha" moments with useful intellilink features they've discovered, or ones they'd like to see implemented? Or things they aren't sure how they work. I for one don't know how they overlay the doplar radar on my weather/nav map, for example.

The weather info is through XM I'd imagine.

That would be something if apps could be made available not through GM... Just look at how Android has changed computing... When the iPhone was new, androids were more or less a joke as competition. Open source turned them into what it is today!

I spoke to a GM infotainment service rep and he said nothing is coming out in the near future. I for one am disappointed by GM hyping this new system and almost a year later nothing new. Figures Govt Motors would be behind the curve.

Android was not released when the iPhone appeared - and Android has always been open source ;) Android Inc then Google a couple years later made sure to release the API and told you how to use the Linux SDKs before they got theirs up and going to program for the reengineering. Google once it bought the OS from Android has made everything available through the Apache system. I can remember when they were ahead of Apple and Microsoft then Apple up and released the swipe interface and the race to change it was fun and interesting.

Be nice to add simple things like pictures from your phone via USB/AUX plug, etc. I don't see how difficult that would be for GM, basically making the my link a mini computer; what it already essentially is.

GM is way behind the curve in the infotainment dept. Check out the Chrysler system that is in their trucks and it is years ahead. Heck, my old 11' could add pictures of my own, stream bluetooth from my phone and a few other things all the way back in 09' whereas the GM trucks are really just truly getting into it. I do like the MyLink system, but it has a lot more capability than is being utilized!

Anyone know why GMC doesn't have iTunes as an app? I mean Pandora is cool but even that requires my iPhone to be connected to a USB port. The Intellilink should be able to upload my iTunes. The phone app automatically uploads contacts when the phone is paired. It would be nice to sync my iTunes directly into the truck so I can play my tunes without plugging into a USB. Plus why are there < > arrows on my home screen if I don't have more than one screen of apps?

Has anyone figured out how to put pictures in for the stock contact photo?

This bugs the hell out of me

They put those arrows on there to piss you off. To make you search and look and spend hours combing through forums to find nothing.

Yeah, Apple isn't going to let you do that. It's more of an Apple issue than in Intillilink problem.

If you have your iPhone paired with your system, you should be able to play directly from your iPhone via bluetooth. I haven't tried yet, but just read something about it in the owner's manual.

Nope. In order to use it with voice commands u must be plugged into USB. Otherwise you have to navigate thru songs from your iPhone.

Not entirely. You can advance forward and backward through playlists using the < or > arrows while listening through Bluetooth. I do believe you need to use the phone to change playlists etc.

I have a 2005 Sierra 1500 with a blown gt5/g80 and a 2004 Silverado 1500 parts truck with a gt4. Just wondering if everything would be the same if I were to swap them or not

Just wanted to post on here, as I have seen no less than a thousand posts with questions about the 6L80E, specifically about the power threshold of a stock unit. I have a 2014 GMC Sierra SLT Crew Cab Standard Bed stock 3.42 gears stock drive shaft stock 20" rims/tires 6.2L fully forged top/bottom end "Armageddon Twin Nagasaki's" (GT3582R's) e-boost 2 gauge Z06/LT4 fuel system 365lph in-tank Armageddon fuel pump QTP exhaust cut-outs and laid down 965rwhp/850 rwtq on a mustang dyno with 18psi on 116 race fuel (cut-outs open). I say all of this because the stock transmission detonated the 4-5-6 shaft (intermediate hub) near the splines. I took it to a "race shop" that said they would upgrade as much as they could; and was told at the time, there were limited aftermarket parts available for the 6L80E. This was mid 2018 with less than 10K miles on the truck and about 500 miles on the engine/turbo build and I discovered that was not entirely true. I drove the truck after their work,  with "spirited road driving" while the roads were wet no less. Long story short; they f'd me and I detonated the 4-5-6 stock intermediate shaft again within 100 miles and no traction at all. They apparently replaced all parts that were broken with stock parts! Moving on, I took my truck to a different shop and researched my a** off and found PATC Transmissions. I had a warm and fuzzy after speaking with them and ordered the Phoenix Level 4 Master Rebuild kit among a few other minor accoutrements and re-tuning of my TCM by Mike from Century Automotive. It is now APR 2019 and I am about 1 1/2 weeks away from having the my billet planetary gear mailed to me; for the new, more reputable shop in my area to install all of this PATC bada**ery. If anyone is truly interested, I will post new info once I put the new Phoenix Master Rebuild kit through the ringer with the full weight/horsepower/torque of my particular application...I hope this helps if there are some lost souls out there that may be headed down the same long. hard. road. of a "full send" like myself! Please post if you have questions/comments/concerns; as I have "been there done that and forgot the t-shirt" with the L86/6L80E so far.

Got my SLT ceramic coated. The product is called QP-ON. Turned out pretty good! Debating getting 3m wrap on the front end. So expensive!

Sold my 2015 Silverado a few weeks ago and bought a new GMC Sierra SLT with the z71 package and the 6.2L v8!
Had the camper shell moved over and sold the Silverado to my dad.
It's been a great change so far. Nicer interior so my wife and daughter enjoy it. It's much quieter with the active noise cancellation, and the thing just SCOOTS!

My 5.3 that i had before was modded and would move pretty quick but this 6.2 just puts it TO SHAME.
Installed an AFE Momentum GT Intake on it a few days ago and it's even better.
Just cracked 1000 miles over the weekend and it's already better on gas mileage, ride quality and everything in between than the silverado was.

Very excited for the modifications to come.

Looking to add some fox coilovers to all 4 corners in the next week or so, which will level it out and lift the front end.
Will then upgrade to 10 ply tires, probably a good bit taller than stock. (thinking about cooper at3 XLT's currently in probably 275/65R20 or 285/60R20)
Then planning to put airbags on the back for towing.

Still undecided on exhaust setup, but will plan to do that and probably tune it in the future as well.

Anyways, heres a pic of the truck when i picked it up. i'll post some pics of the intake after installation as well.

First post but following for a while now, I was wondering if anyone on her has done, or has seen a set of aftermarket Silverado headlights in a Sierra? I have a 2012 Sierra and I like the look of some of the Silverado headlights a lot better than the ones I have now, just want to change it up a bit and was wondering if anyone new if they we able to just be bolted in normally or if there was a conversion to make it possible?
